Foxxxy Rule #2: Don’t mix business with pleasure
Life has not been kind to Adrian Vasquez. He spends his days hiding the truth of his sexuality from his homophobic brother, sticking to every rule of his probation so he isn’t sent back to jail, and keeping out of the crosshairs of Los Hermanos del Diablo—Boston’s most notorious Mexican gang, of which his brother is a prominent member—all in the name of survival. Thankfully, he has his nights working at The Foxxxy Gentlemen’s Club as an escort and exotic dancer to keep him sane. It may not be his dream job, but under the neon glow of the Foxxxy stage, Adrian can pretend to be someone else, even if it’s only for a little while.
Life has not been easy for Taylor Greer. Born queer and intersex to a Southern Baptist preacher, they left home at fifteen to escape conversation therapy, masquerading as a “Christian summer camp.” After surviving four years on the unforgiving streets of Boston, they struggle to get their life back on track for a chance at a better future. Working two jobs to stay afloat and studying every spare minute to pass their GED exam, Taylor has little time for a social life, let alone a love life. But who needs romance when living is this complicated?
When Taylor and Adrian’s paths meet with a literal crash, a bruised plantain is the catalyst for a connection they’re both starving for. Dating a coworker never ends well, but some forces cannot be fought, and Adrian and Taylor can only ignore the magnetic pull between them for so long before physics wins.
Adrian knows better than to mix business with pleasure. Taylor knows better than to get involved with a colleague. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and some rules are made to be broken.
Every book in the Foxxxy series can be read as a standalone, but they are best enjoyed when read in order.
*Trigger Warning: Racist and homophobic language/slurs, Mild gang-related violence and threats, Scenes and discussions about eating disorders, Scenarios and mentions of gender dysphoria, One non-violent but bigoted/racist exchange with the police.
REVIEW:
The Foxxxy Gentlemen’s Club is the classiest gay strip club in Boston, and Adrian is lucky to work there as a dancer and an escort. He’s twenty-three, Puerto Rican, and gone through a lot of hurt already. He’s a survivor, survived jail, and succeeded thus far in avoiding Mateo and his Mexican gang. Hiding being gay was necessary they would kill him knowing.
Adrian’s life, with his dark complexion, huge, tattoos, piercings, ánd on probation is far from easy. He’s a target for police on the street. The opposite is Taylor who also works for Foxxxy, they are white, petite with soft edges and a soft voice.
There’s an attraction, it took some time, but Taylor and Adrian developed a friendship. Adrian didn’t trust anyone, still, he trusted Taylor and it’s huge!
Taylor described themself as a non-binary intersex person, raised told they were wrong and abnormal, it took them some time to figure out who they were and accept themself. But omfg why are people so hateful and hurtful? Taylor is the sweetest person on earth and the world is so f cruel ugh!
Adrian wants to be near Taylor and very very carefully they get closer and closer. It was everything!
Adrian isn’t out and the gang Los Hermanos can never find out, they will hurt Taylor and that’s the last thing he wants.
It’s such a precious story, hard at times, but also a road of making fun, exploring intimacy, and emotionally growing closer and finally love.
They didn’t have just plain sex, they worshipped each other, they loved on the other, I was out of breath, it was just so intimate and impressive!
Watching some private details of their lives, for example where Taylor got a metamorphosis of a dragqueen was stunning, and Adrian where he tops a client and speaks Puerto Rican into the man’s ear, read it, it’s all so entertaining, it completes the story.
The people from Foxxxy are glorious, thank heaven for people like them! I cried my eyes out.
Every important character is precisely developed, they became family or enemy. The surroundings were ditto developed, you could look around and see the details and could feel the atmosphere.
It’s an emotionally loaded story, beautifully written, all the members of Foxxxy get some spotlight on them, with a laser focus on Taylor and Adrian, two dear dear characters I fell in love with, and wished them all the happiness of the world!
I loved this story very!!
