Can his Redemption really be a Rebel?
Two years ago, Navy SEAL Zack McGuire swore to protect a US Navy Cryptologic Technician Interpretive on a routine trip into the heart of the green zone in Kabul. He failed in his mission, shattering the heart of her husband, Marc, his fellow SEAL brother. Unable to deal with his failure, Zack left Teams and wandered for months before being recruited to Task Force Ambra. Now he has a new mission, and a new purpose, to protect the innocent from former military members gone rogue. This time he will not fail.
Marc Colgan has never forgiven the brother in arms who failed to protect the only person he’d ever loved. After losing his wife, he moved clean across the country to escape the nightmares and to avoid shooting the asshole on the street. He once promised his wife he’d stay out of jail at all costs. That promise was the start of his Navy career. But now she’s gone. His time in SEALs is done, he has new job and a new life. He thought he was finally moving on… then temptation moved in just down the street.
Can two broken warriors find the strength to forgive the painful wounds of the past and build a future together? Will survivor’s guilt stop their second chance before it ever gets going? With his heart on the line, Zack must figure out if his Redemption really is a Rebel.
REVIEW:
Former Navy Seal Zack McGuire is really good at his job but most of the time you really have no control over the things/events that happens around you so when a suicide bomber decided to do their deed at the kiosk where Zack and the person he swore to protect stopped by for a drink, he honestly didn’t see it coming. He got his protectee killed, the person he swore his best friend and swim buddy, Marc Colgan, to protect, his wife. He has been going over what he could have done differently in order for that not to have had happened, again and again.
Zack left the Navy after that and was recruited to join Task Force Ambra. It is a group of people just like him, recruited from the different military branches all over the world. The task force’s main objective is to go after other former military operatives who have gone rogue and is now operating on the opposite side of the law and against their governments.
Marc Colgan left the Navy and join another agency just so he can try to forget what happened to his wife. He has never forgiven his friend for getting his wife killed while protecting her. Now, he goes through his life by infiltrating and going undercover for the agency. So when he got a call to meet and possibly help another group, he got the surprise of his life when he saw the man who took his life away, again. But wanting to help clear another friend’s name, and because even though he has all these hang ups and doubts, he is still a good person and would want his friend’s name get cleared (or confirm the group’s suspicion), he helps them.
My heart breaks whenever Zack and Marc get the chance to talk because you can clearly feel Marc’s anger and Zack’s heartbreak over what happened to Marc’s wife. You can also feel a tension other than anger and heartbreak, it’s palpable but our guys are so full of anger and heartbreak that even though they can feel it, they are really adamant to ignore it. Maybe they think that if they can ignore it, they can continue feeling the way they do, it would be safer I suppose than acknowledging whatever these new feelings are.
But close proximity does have its advantages (most of the time), it forces our MCs to at least address some of what they are feeling, let it out. Even if it is anger, pain, heartbreak. If you start confronting those feelings, then surely you start to heal and maybe whatever friendship they had could still be salvage, if they get off their high horses and do start to talk, that is.
I love Ms. Annabella Stone’s writing. She has created this world of men who have had their fair share of horrendous history in the military and have created these organizations which can put right some of the wrongs that have been done. They are sanctioned organizations but they are top secret. Someone up there also want to right these wrongs and only these group of men can do that.
