REVIEW:
Joey has had a rough go of it his entire life. First his mother dies while he’s still an infant. Then his father abandons him when it is discovered that he suffers from Crohn’s Disease at the age of eleven. The bright spot and constant in his life has always been his Grandmother who has really been his Mom through everything. The other bright spot was his job and boss. His job as an administrative assistant for the gorgeous Tucker Duval, successful real estate agent, was the perfect job. One that he could do from his home office so that his disease wasn’t as affected as out in the public work force. When his beloved granny passes away suddenly Joey’s health spirals out of control and lands him in the hospital too. He has no choice but to give up the job he loved after he believes he disappointed his boss completely. When working as a server at The Tap Tavern with his best friend Cameron, the other servers decide he needs to put up a sign on the community board advertising for a gentle daddy. But when Tucker applies for being his daddy he is beyond shocked. Can the two work through the past and move to a brighter future with each other?
I have never read a daddy/boy story where the new daddy is a former boy that progressed to being a daddy in charge. And that he preferred to bottom was even more surprising. It work because of Joey’s rough past sexual experiences.
This story might seem like their romance and love moved at warp speed but that was because of their previous work experience and personal draw to each other for all that previous time they worked together. I liked that Tucker never knew what Joey looked like because of his Crohn’s Disease he blocked his camera in case he has to work from his bathroom on rough days.
Crohn’s Disease is an especially tough disease on a young person. I witnessed personally how tough it can be first hand with one of my daughter’s best friend’s in high school. It was debilitating at times and we weee always cautious with her diet restrictions to help keep her as healthy as possible when she was over at our home. Attending school was hard because of her constant flare ups. She was shy and had a hard time trusting other kids to be friends because she always felt like she was damaged and too much trouble. It was heartbreaking even though we showered her with love and patience. Watching Daddy Tucker take such an active role in Joey’s life was especially tender to me. His devotion to his health and stress showed not only he cared/loved Joey but that he was there for the long haul.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to hearing about all of Joey’s friends and their search for their perfect daddies.
