He gave me freedom through restraint.
He captivated me the first time I saw him. I was drawn to him, curious about the mysterious, soft spoken older man. I convinced myself there was no way someone so worldly would be interested in a shy, inexperienced guy like me. I’m careful what I reveal, choosing instead to live with what if.
But with each interaction, I felt things I never had before. Patiently, he gave me the space to peel back my armor, allowing him to twist me apart in ways I never imagined. Now I crave the security of his ropes.
He opened up the way I see the world and myself in it. Can he open my heart too…
Twist Me is a steamy age gap tale exploring love and self through Shibari. It is book six in the Tattoos and Temptation series featuring hot Miami nights, Latin desserts, and guys with ink.
It can be read as a standalone but the author recommends reading the series in order or at least book three, Free Me, for maximum enjoyment.
REVIEW:
Twist Me is a joyful conclusion to Mia Monroe’s fabulous Tattoos and Temptation series. The book delivers a well-deserved HEA for Grey, a tattoo artist at Jude’s Black Heart Tattoo shop, and Mitsu, Shibari instructor and mentor to Nix, who we first meet in book three, Free Me, which I recommend you read first. Twist Me displays a more lyrical side of Ms. Monroe’s writing, a perfect counterpoint to this beautiful story of finding peace and redemption. Then Kale Williams takes this zen-like story and channels it through his luscious, serene, hypnotic voice. He yet again delivers a masterful performance I could listen to on repeat.
Reflective of the title, Ms. Monroe employs lovely “twisting” imagery throughout the book, including Shibari. The Shibari ropes provide restraint and, oxymoronically, space and freedom needed for Grey to feel like his true self. He’s struggled to settle into his skin, bottling up his true self through self-preservation. Now, it’s not easy for him to open up again. But Mitsu twists him open like a cap on a bottle, allowing Grey to shine for the world to see, always with the safety net of Mitsu’s love and support. Twist Me is page after page of breathtaking actions and dialogue between Mitsu and Grey that consistently build unshakeable trust between them.
Grey uses Mitsu’s Shibari ropes to push himself to his limits. Twisting something causes it to distort, stretch, and strain. But it bends, flexes, gives, and most importantly, does. not. break. Grey desperately wants to be seen and understood that way because it’s his truth. He is strong and resilient. Mitsu sees that and gives that to him.
Ironically, Kale Williams’ voice does the exact opposite of twisting you up in knots. It’s smooth, cool and even, with a melodic ebb and flow cadence that lulls you into a state of warmth and calm. His vocal performance epitomizes Grey and Mitsu’s relationship in its depth, complexity, and effortlessness. He nails Mitsu’s zen-master voice in the narrow dynamic band of his intonations and the low, even, dreamy quality of his voice. He gives Grey’s voice a brightness and energy that’s tentative but hopeful at first, and then morphs into invested and excited and he becomes more confident and feels more authentic. Grey’s voice has a higher pitch, a bit more speed, and a greater range of reactions that Mr. Williams shows through his variation of intonations. Mr. Williams gets everything just right in yet another memorable, inimitable performance.
Twist Me is a no angst story with hot sex, humor, and happiness. True to Ms. Monroe’s style, there’s a more profound meaning that highlights Mitsu and Grey’s journey. Mr. Williams turns Ms. Monroe’s story of Mitsu and Grey falling in love into the story of us falling in love with Mr. Williams’ vocal performance of this beautiful, fulfilling romance. I give my highest recommendation to the entire Tattoos and Temptation audiobook series that is brought to a satisfying conclusion in Twist Me.
