Stronger Than Hope by Katherine McIntyre
Chesapeake Days, Book 1
One man looking to set down roots, the other looking to leave…
Fresh out of a relationship, Nate’s searching for a change—what better way is there than renovating his uncle’s old coffee shop in Chesapeake City? He has a new job, in a new town, and a new lease. And when he almost runs over his hot neighbor, Linc, who happens to be his contractor? Well, based on the explosive attraction between them, maybe he’ll find something new there too.
Linc’s been treading water ever since his wife passed away in childbirth, focusing all of his energy on raising his son, Beckett. The obvious solution? He needs to get the hell out of Chesapeake City. But when Nate charmingly fumbles his way into Linc’s life, he finds his defenses lowering for the first time in years. One date leads to another, and hell, this man makes him feel in ways he’d forgotten.
Even though Nate just finished piecing his heart back together, he falls fast. Yet Linc’s made it clear he’s a bad bet. The man hasn’t clicked with anyone since his wife, and if Nate ends up being “not enough” again, that won’t shatter just his heart—the fragile home he’s trying to build in this town will crumble too.

“Eliza?” A voice sounded from behind him right as he turned around. “I brought you the—”
Linc didn’t make it a pace before something solid smacked straight into him. A second later, the scorch of liquid on his chest followed, seeping into the fabric of his shirt.
“Oh, shit.”
Linc looked in front of him to see the guy who’d almost run him over the day before holding a paper cup of coffee, half empty. Because the rest of the liquid had spilled onto Linc’s shirt.
Nate’s mouth dropped open in horror. “I’m so, so sorry.” He placed the cup of coffee onto the counter and then groped around in the air.
Linc lifted the fabric off his chest to ease some of the burning. Thankfully the liquid hadn’t been piping hot.
Jeremy reached over and passed a wad of napkins into Nate’s grasping hands.
A blush stained Nate’s cheeks as he approached with the napkins. Before Linc could tell him he was fine, just a mess for his next meeting, Nate dove in and started blotting at his shirt. This close, he got a better glimpse of the guy than the brief view from the other day.
Goddamn, Nate was pretty enough to give Jeremy a run for his money.
His dark brown hair was long enough to tug, and his big heartbreaker eyes were a bright blue that drew immediate attention. He had a wide jaw and thick brows, but he emanated this boyish sweetness. Linc couldn’t help but linger for a moment on his features, a flicker of attraction lighting his chest. Well, that was inconvenient.
Nate furiously dabbed at his chest. “You must think I’m the worst person on the planet,” he mumbled.
“You’ll have to try a little harder to earn that title,” Linc said, placing a hand on the guy’s broad shoulder to try and stop the onslaught of dabbing. The gesture worked. Nate stopped, his gaze whipping up to greet his. Linc continued, “Unless you’re saying that because you cut my brake lines.”
Nate’s eyes widened as he shook his head. “I swear, I’m not out to get you. I just have the worst timing in existence.” He looked a little bit miserable, and Linc couldn’t help the urge to reassure him.
Linc met his gaze and glanced to his chest. “I’m pretty sure my shirt’s dry enough. You’re okay. I’m not burnt.”
