Wolf shifter Caleb Phillips thought betraying his alpha ended his life—instead, it led to a new beginning.
Oscar “Oz” Havershin’s brother vanished. Now he’s a grizzly shifter with one mission—find Ollie.
Fated mates meet… but are either of them ready?
Caleb’s guilt over how he wounded his pack pale in comparison to the high cost of his actions. He wishes he was the one to die, instead, he lives with scars of not just his past, but his betrayal. Leaving home might just be the best thing he’s ever done. Maybe his luck’s turning around, but is he good enough for his fated mate?
Oscar’s single-minded focus on finding his brother derails when he comes face to face with Caleb. He’s warned to be patient with his mate—Caleb’s been through a lot. But patience isn’t Oscar’s best trait. His bear’s ready to mate; can he help Caleb heal, find his brother, and live his happily ever after?
REVIEW:
I have been waiting for Caleb’s book every since the attack on Blake and Robert at the Alpha challenge. I knew there was way more to his story!
Caleb’s life has been hell since that fateful, tragic trip to the Colorado River when he was only seven. Since then he has been hated by his Mom, Aunt and Cousin. The same cousin that he was with and got killed in the attack on the Alpha. When Alpha Caldwell and his father Nathan take the young man in, during his redemption to the pack, they treat him with kindness and compassion he knows he doesn’t deserve. He should have died that day instead of his cousin, the golden boy of the family. Now that his restitution is completed the Alpha arranges for Caleb to join Robert’s old pack, live in his cottage and get a job waiting tables at Mike’s Diner. When he goes to serve two huge grizzly bear shifters their water he is shocked to discover his fated mate! But Caleb knows he doesn’t deserve love. Heck he really doesn’t even deserve to be alive after his betrayal!
Poor Caleb’s story is sick and twisted. Some people never deserve to be parents and his Mom is one of them! The things she watched his cousin do to him were appalling and horrific abuse. Denying his ability to shift to heal by forcing wolf-bane on him was beyond abuse! It was horribly cruel! What happened to that woman and her sister was not only justified but too easy!
And Oz! Who wouldn’t fall for the gentle yet fiercely protective giant. But, boy did that man have extremely bad luck with past relationships. Thankful Sean was his true friend and always had his back! I’m hoping we get Sean’s story eventually.
And speaking of shifter’s stories…I hoping Andy gets his fated mate soon too! I loved that Andy and Tommy took Caleb in as one of their own. Caleb needed that level of friendship. I know he began to realize that Nathan truly though of him as one of his boys. And Alpha Tanner and Alpha James saw through the damning evidence to see the real Caleb and trust him. And boy do those three get super protective of Caleb when Oz makes his gigantic blunder! I know he has major trust issues but he never gave poor Caleb a chance to talk. Nice to see the Alpha’s go ballistic on him!
I thought that this was the last in this series but I realized, on the last page, I had more questions than I have answers and many new ones. I am sure I am a long way from being anywhere near finished with this story. I also am beginning to think that I should have read the High Garden Dragons series first. I think then I wouldn’t have been so confused with side characters that show up suddenly and the powers they possess.
Now I can’t wait for Nathan and Ollie’s story! And figure out what the heck really happen when they rescued Caleb, Ollie and the other kidnap victims at that warehouse.
