REVIEW:
This is Book four of the Godstone Saga from Ms. Jocelynn Drake. Is this installment, we will see our boys traveling to the Isle of Stone in order to find out if Drayce is there and to seek the Goddess of Fire. After what happened at the end of the third book, everything is at a standstill when it comes to where Caelan’s mind is. The same goes for Rayne and Eno. They are all worried about Drayce, most especially Caelan, which is understandable because Drayce is the love of his life! Caelan is heartbroken.
Remember in my last review when I said I am both excited and scared for what will come next, well, I said it. This book destroyed me, filled me with all the feels, all of them! But most of all, it fills me with hope for the last two books.
At the start of the story, we see our boys traveling to the Isle of Stone aboard their own ship, with Erya’s own navy on their back. We also meet Adrian Westergren, a new addition to our group, not to replace Drayce but to provide a much-needed additional person to guard the King. They are supposed to be drop a few miles from shore off one of the small islands and from there they will make their way to wherever the Godstone is. But, as usual, not everything went according to plan, a New Rosanthe warship began bombarding them. Their two other ships accompanying them had to be diverted to create distraction while their own ship finds a way to drop them as near to their destination as possible without them being seen.
But alas, again, when they landed on shore, someone was already there waiting for them. Mio, one of the dragons living in the Chasm saw them and began asking them questions. They in turn ask her some questions too because they know too little of what they will find in the Isle of Stone. They know so little about dragons and the governance of the Isle. Mio took them in and told them what she could about the different clans of dragons. But most of all, Mio told them about Clan Takahashi, who is the ruling clan. Clan Takahashi’s leader is ruthless, whose goal is to amass more power no matter the cost. He doesn’t really care about his subjects. After a night raid wherein several of the dragons in the Chasm were killed, it was time for the group to seek what they came for. They needed to talk to the clan leader to inquire about the Godstone. Even as the clan leader denies it, King Caelan knows the Fire Stone is on the isle. He also asked about a black dragon by the name of Drayce Ladon, a.k.a. Takahashi Souta, the youngest son of the clan leader.
When King Caelan was granted the chance to visit Drayce in prison, he learned more about Drayce’s life before he came to Stormbreak. He learned about how he was treated by his own father and older brother, even by a sister who really didn’t seem to care for him at all. When he was told that he will be sent to guard/protect the Guardian of the Godstone, it was the happiest day of his life because then he will be able to leave the clan and the isle, forever. But when he broke his oath and showed himself in Mrytu, he went back to his clan to accept his punishment. He also thought that Caelan didn’t love him anymore because of his dishonesty.
King Caelan also learned about the rival clan of the Takahashi, Clan Omari.
When I said earlier that this book destroyed me, I meant it. I cried so hard in the later parts of the book, especially scenes with Drayce and Caelan, Rayne and Caelan and Eno. I realized how much someone is willing to sacrifice for LOVE. How much love can motivate someone to do something that he will not do otherwise, if not for the love of his life. And how much words can cut someone down to pieces, making that person feel as if he has no other choice and that he has no one left in his life who will accept him, mistakes and all. That is why it is very important for us to be very careful with what we say to our loved ones and to other people because no matter how sorry we are, those words were already uttered and we can never take them back.
Ms. Jocelynn Drake, I am in awe of your talent. This series is amazing! You have created a world full of amazing characters in a different world. You have taken us on an adventure that is magical and perilous. You have created beings and magical creatures that astounds us. I am eagerly awaiting for the last two books, with hope and prayers that everything will turn out well for our King and now his four companions, the kingdom of Erya and all of Thia (Stormbreak, Caspagir, Zastrad, Isle of Stone, Ilon). Hoping that King Caelan will spend more time in the Isle of Stone after everything is safe and done.
To those who have been following this series, this book will surprise you and make you more eager to learn what happens next. A lot of things were revealed in this book that will make you speechless (it made me) and just plain take your breath away!
