They say we are all products of our environment. Those raised in happy households will become loving, well-adjusted members of society; while those raised in violence and darkness will grow to be angry, heartless, and unstable. Truer words were never spoken.
After surviving the terrifying events that occurred on the murder farm, Alex’s views of society have darkened. That once bright and hopeful light has now dimmed and given rise to rage and suspicion.
Alex’s views of humanity are tested even further when he stumbles across a man bleeding to death in an alleyway. Who is this man? And why was he left for dead?
Marc and Alex suddenly find themselves thrust into the seedy underworld of human trafficking and prostitution as they work to uncover the criminal organization preying on the weak and vulnerable.
This is a MM thriller dealing with the darker elements of the criminal underworld.
Marc pulled something out of his pocket and quickly jabbed it in the man’s arm.
The man’s eyes went wide with shock, but soon closed as his body sank down into the mattress.
“What the? What did you do?” Alex shouted at Marc as he slapped his arm. He was annoyed that Marc had taken action without consulting him first. They were supposed to be a team!
“I just gave him a little shot to knock him out. He was getting too agitated, and I was worried he was going to rip his stitches open.” Marc said, holding up a syringe.
Alex glared at Marc as his eyes narrowed into daggers.
“Sure, you were worried about his stitches! You were just worried that he was going to do something to hurt me, so you knocked him out before he got the chance. What the fuck? We are supposed to be a team!”
Marc placed the syringe back in his pocket and rolled his eyes. “Sue me for wanting to protect my man. I’m not going to apologize for neutralizing a threat.”
“What threat?!? The man was scared and confused. I know what it is like to wake up in a bed and not know where you are. Except for me, my hands were also zip tied!”
Marc rolled his eyes again. This was apparently his latest thing when Alex said something that annoyed him. The rolling of his eyes. A silent “fuck you” to the man he loved.
“How many times are you going to hold that over my head? So, I chained your sorry ass up! Big fucking deal! You shot me!!”
Anyone listening in on this conversation would think that they were the most dysfunctional couple ever, and both needed to be locked up in a mental institution. But for Alex and Marc, this was how they communicated. They bitched and complained about how the other mistreated them, yet when all was said and done, they would both jump in front of flying bullets for each other. Yes, their love was unhealthy and fucked up. But it was their love. Their absolute love.
“And you drugged me,” Alex snipped back, throwing his hands on his hips as a matter of fact.
Marc stood on the other side of the bed with his mouth open contemplating how to respond.
Alex could see the frustration in his eyes. How do you tell off the man that you love when you have no leg to stand on?
“Well, you snore!” Marc blurted, clearly defeated but trying to cling to a life raft.
They both stared at each other for a minute, until Alex could no longer hold back his laughter. The two burst out laughing seeming to forget the unconscious man sprawled out between them.
Marc reached across the bed and grabbed Alex’s hand.
“God, you are infuriating,” Marc said with a smile.
“Someone needs to keep that ego of yours in check.” Alex blew Marc a kiss from across the bed.
“Come, let’s get some sleep. This guy will be out for the next few hours.”
“Sounds good, stud.”
Alex followed Marc out of the bedroom and watched as Marc locked the door from the hallway.
