I was so ready for this book to get here! I really wanted Red’s twin brothers story!
Atlas is now the Pack Leader. Red has relinquished his leadership after he mated with his fated mate Shayne. Atlas knows that he should have been leader when he was younger and much more serious. Years of being the pack playboy, drinking Wolfruin and fooling around with every tempting omega that crossed his path, has left him with a reputation of carefree and not to be relied upon. A huge weight is on him now that he has taken over leadership. A what a first 24 hours it has been! Jonathan’s fated mate, Peter and his border collie Millie, have been kidnapped by the Bear shifter sleuth. While out on patrol he comes across a couple of unfortunate city hiker/campers who are smack dab right in the middle of the gulley that both shifter groups are patrolling. One sniff and contact and Atlas realizes that the dark skinned ex-military man is actually his fated mate! Now, not only does he need to lead his pack, find Peter and Millie, but protect his mate that he accidentally impregnates in a one-and-done!
I was prepared for Atlas to to be flighty, irresponsible and a man-whore. What I wasn’t prepared for was his sweet, tender, nurturing side. Where he should have been eased into his role as Pack Alpha leader he was thrown into an impending war with the Bear shifters. Did he make mistakes? Plenty!!! Did he own them? Definitely Yes! But mating with David was never a mistake. His military knowledge was a compliment to Atlas’s leadership. He didn’t override him but stood next to him in a sign of strength and support. The pack was made better and grew to flourish eventually by their bond. Did David have the right to question whether Atlas would be the one to stick by his side vs. be irresponsible and practice risky behaviors like both their dad’s? Heck yes! But Atlas showed, for the long run, he was and is a leader and a mate. And David saw through the insecurities that plagued Atlas every since his dad chose Red first. His was able to be the supportive mate that Atlas needed to fulfill his destiny.
I do hope we never meet the twin’s father Stuart. That man was no father or leader. And the fact that he choose to not only leave his teenage sons so he could pursue his own needs but lied about their omega parent was cowardly and wrong. Thankfully the boys have David’s mom Carol as a role model.
I knew something was up between the town doctor Rohan and David’s best friend/childhood friend Mars. I can’t wait for their story! Second chance love is always a great read! Dylan Reece may be a new author but has truly created a world in Darlington that is well developed, captivating and riveting. I can’t wait for more of the packs Alpha’s to find their fated mates and grow this found family!
