What if you’re a nerdy med student and a womanizing rock star wants you as her next conquest—then leaves you totally humiliated.
Now fast-forward eleven years.
Sexy and magnetic, Australian rock star Austen Farleigh is at the height of her spectacular career. Her penchant for one-night stands is as famous as her many songs.
American Dr. Merritt Harrington now works for Doctors Without Borders and is at a crossroads in her life. Her last assignment in the Andes Mountains was harrowing, and her love life at a dead end. No one has been able to ignite even a tiny spark since Austen—damn her.
When they meet again in Australia, Merritt is desperate to keep Austen at arm’s length. But temptation whispers in her ear.
From the US to Peru to Australia and the highlands of Papua New Guinea, their desire for one another is on an uncontrollable collision course—with a force they may no longer be able to ignore.
REVIEW:
American doctor Merritt Harrington works for Doctors Without Borders, but after her latest assignment she is in need of a break. So, she goes to Australia, to visit her parents among other things. However, when her father, senator John Harrington, holds a formal party and invites the world famous Australian rockstar Austen Farleigh to perform, Merritt’s relaxing break is over. Merritt and Austen met years ago when Merritt was still a med student, she remembers her humiliation clearly. Austen, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to remember it anymore and can’t take her eyes off Merritt. Can Merritt resist Austen’s advances or should the past stay in the past?
I utterly adored this novel. It was great to see that the authors did not shy away from both promoting being a doctor in the Doctors Without Borders programme, but also showing that it can impact the doctors in a not so positive way. The authors did not just sketch a dream image, they showed the reality of it, as they similarly did while showing Austen’s rockstar life. In terms of the story itself, I would say it’s a slow burn with so much sexual tension you want to reach into the book and just do something about it, but when the tension finally gets dealt with, believe me, it was definitely worth the wait.
The POV continuously switches between Austen’s and Merritt’s, which helps the reader greatly by getting insights into how both Merritt and Austen keep dancing around each other, it gives the reader a great insight in their thoughts and it perfectly helps the story progress as the narrative perfectly pick up where the other left off at the end of the chapter.
There are a few characters introduced in the book who I had hoped to get more closure for, but that might be a good idea for a sequel, as I did get curious about them.
I definitely recommend reading this book as I enjoyed every word I read!
