Lornyc is good at keeping secrets, because secrets can get you kicked out of College.
Lornyc considers the undergraduate course, and most of the people on it, beneath him. He just needs to get through this year and then he can start his doctorate. Methian might be attractive enough, but he’s an annoying, fat-headed, sloth toad, and Lornyc doesn’t want him as a lab partner. In fact, Lornyc doesn’t want anything to do with him.
Prequel to the Reagalos novels: enemies to lovers, new adult, gay romance fantasy. A stand-alone novel in the Reagalos universe that charts how Lornyc and Methian got together, despite their best efforts not to.
REVIEW:
Lornyc goes to college and meets the love of his life. However, his family says that Methian is the last person Lornyc should be involved with. Likewise, Methian’s parents feel the same about Lornyc.
Whoop. Whoop – what a welcome return to the Reagalos series. Prequels like this one, are a weird thing. Most people pick them up because they love the series, so you already kind of know the ending – or at least where it’s heading. Yet, there’s this innate fear that it won’t include everything you want it to. And, will it affect the overall reading experience because you know the series ending?
Yes, it did affect the reading experience – the extra anticipation made it better.
The tale is told in the third person from the Lornyc and Methian’s viewpoints, and while I found some typos and the odd lapse from past to present tense – by the end of the story, I honestly didn’t care. I was a hook, line, and sinker fan. There wasn’t anything about the story that I didn’t like.
College Days can be read as a standalone, either before, or after the series. However, reading a prequel at the end of a series means you are already familiar with many characters and have several books of cultivated imagery to enhance the reading experience.
I enjoyed seeing Tancorix in a fatherly role and the way a sheltered Lornyc coped, co-existing with a variation of people while remaining true to himself – and I have always loved Methian. The snark, throughout, was a pleasure to read and brought many smiles. Quite rightly, sex is minimal, as the story is how Lornyc and Methian found each other, not how good the sex is – though the more intimate scenes are lovely.
College Days is a book that I will read and re-read – It was everything I hoped it would be, including the angsty bits. After turning the final page, I wanted to, firstly, read it again (and I did), then read the official first book in the series – Servitude, and probably go on from there.
Bravo, Rebecca Cohen, thank you for loving these characters enough to bring that unexpected something extra. A bright light in my reading experience.
