One of us regrets, the other one forgets.
After a warehouse explosion wipes his memory of me, all I see is a chance for redemption. I broke Ashton’s heart two years ago when I chose my career over his warm embrace. And now I’m the only person who can help him find his memories.
But reliving those moments is far from easy. Every step I take in Devil’s Lake is a reminder of the biggest mistake I’ve ever made. And the man walking with me has no clue who I am. He has no clue how much he once loved me.
He looks at me with the same wonder and awe like the first time we met, but we’re racing down the opposite tracks.
If I’m successful, he might just remember me. And when he does, he’ll hate me just like I deserve.
Yours To Be Forgotten is the second book in The Long Way Home trilogy and should be read after Yours To Be Forgiven. Next and final book, Yours To Be Protected, brings this tale to an end in April.
REVIEW:
This just might be Hayden Hall’s best work yet!
Logan almost had it all when he and Ashton were deeply in love and living together in Devil’s Lake. ALMOST! He just couldn’t get the career there he dreamed of since he was young…investigating and writing the next big breaking news story. It was deep in his blood. So he gave up everything Devil’s Lake to pursue his dreams in the big apple, including Ash. Unfortunately it was harder than he though to grab hold of his dreams and become a success. Now he’s flinging burgers and trying to survive in a run-down studio apartment he can barely afford and on his last hope of achieving his dream. When all looked lost a stranger shows up and basically bullies his way in when he won’t take no for an answer. He says he’s Ash’s long-lost big brother and Ash has been seriously hurt fighting an explosive fire. Now Logan is back in Devil’s Lake, a place he never thought he would ever return to after he burned all his bridges there leaving Ash, and is standing before his ex-lover that he never fell out of love with. Oh…and Ash has absolutely no clue who he (or anyone) is!
This story really got to me. Your worst nightmare realized! You wake up after a near fatal injury a month later and have no idea who you are or who anyone else is. You have rote muscle memory that helps you walk and talk but even doing something as simple as making a cup of coffee in your own home, that you don’t remember at all, is impossible. You can’t do anything except get dressed in clothes you don’t remember and are at the mercy of people you don’t know! Thankfully a wealthy, long-lost brother shows up and vows to take care of you. Then he drops an ex-lover off that stirs feels but still no memory of.
This broke my heart. Ash was a good guy that would do anything for anyone without thought. He risks his life to protect and save those in danger and then all of this. I would have just curled up in a ball and shut down. Thankfully Logan saw how fragile Ash was. And even more thankfully Max knew just what buttons to push to get Logan to get out of NYC and come to Ash’s rescue. If there was anyone in the world that had a chance of opening back up Ash’s memory it was Logan.
I did love that Logan put his natural investigative skills to work solving the questions on the suspicious fire that hurt the firefighters. He was a natural and I hope all good things materialize for him. I also love that, even though Max wasn’t happy with how things were coming to pass, he pushed both men towards each other after he saw it was true love and they were miserable without each other.
This was a heartrending second-chance love story. I was thankful we got to see Max and a few glimpses of Ethan. I’m hoping that we get to see more of them and the kids as the result of Logan’s riveting exposé. And find out who the baby in the stroller is too. Hayden Hall promises to wrap up all these storylines in the next and final book in this amazing and riveting series. A must read in my humble opinion.
