My idea of an adventure is logging into my favorite game and meeting up with my online friends from the safety of my couch. I’m happy in my boring and predictable life. I certainly don’t need a gorgeous man moving into my building to mix things up.
When my neighbor brings home a fresh hookup, I mean to close the blinds. I really do! It’s just that he has a tattoo and shows all that skin, and well, I’m ashamed to say I get busted. It’s not my fault he never closes his blinds and our studio apartments stare right into each other’s. I try to ignore my shame until, one day, my neighbor puts on a show, and like the magic of my favorite video games—I forget how to be boring. I’m drawn by his looks, but ensnared by his kindness. I never expected to talk to him, let alone become friends, and especially not more.
Just Watch Me is a 38,000-word low-angst, super sweet, gay romance with steam about a tech geek who tumbles out of his comfort zone thanks to his gorgeous temporary neighbor. This book is for fans of ridiculous T-shirts, secret geeks, all the cheese, neighbors who become lovers, and a homebody falling for someone always on the move.
REVIEW:
This short, sweet, low-angst book surprised me with how good it was.
This story is told completely from Jesse’s POV. One evening he looks out his studio apartment window, which looks directly into his hot new neighbor’s similar studio apartment and gets the live porn show view of a lifetime! He not only can’t tear his eyes of what is going on with his gorgeous neighbor and his “flavor of the night” guest, but gets hard and rubs one out while watching. Then he suddenly realizes that his neighbor is focusing on him rather than the guy he’s doing. Jesse has never had a voyeur thing but can’t seem to tear his eyes away from the man across the courtyard. Then, when they meet there is a burning in him. But how can the shy, geeky guy attract the attention of the gorgeous man? And how can he protect his heart when he realizes that he’s falling for a man that has a rapidly approaching expiration date to disappear to the next job and town?
There is no way on earth I could have not fallen for either Jesse or Skylar. Jesse had the whole anxiety issues that stemmed from being and only child of super overprotective parents that wanted to keep him from all the dangers in the world to the point that his anxiety was crippling him. Sky saw through all of that and helped the true J emerge. The bright, funny and beautiful guy he wanted and was quickly falling for. And Sky just wanted what J had. Home, stability and now his friendship that was quickly turning to love.
It was an added bonus I had no idea was coming that this story is set in my lifelong home state of Oregon. From the boys discovering restaurants I’ve been to to, to their exploration of the Oregon Coast. I literally went to see the Goonies house over the New Year’s weekend when I went back to visit. And the Tillamook Cheese Factory is a must when taking visitors to visit the Oregon Coast. So yummy!!!
I was extremely pleased with how the author tied up the going away situation. And I highly suggest you download the bonus chapter that was linked at the end of the book. That however is one of my personal pet peeves, having to do that. If you pay for the book then you want the WHOLE book without having to jump through hoops. That is the only reason for the slightly lower rating.
This was a fast, fun well written book with a trope I have never explored. I highly recommend it.
