You never know what hides behind sad eyes.
For Javier Jimenez, aka Shadow, drummer for the award-winning metal band, Maiden Voyage, life off stage isn’t all glitters and rainbows. He plays the part of the Devil May Care drummer when he’s in the spotlight, but outside of it, the only person who knows the real Javier besides his family is his bodyguard, Tony.
Lucas Shane never expected to run into his ex, Joey Hayes, lead singer for Social Sinners. In fact, he did his best to ensure their paths never crossed yet here he stood, face to face with Joey and his husband, Stoli. Yes, Lucas made a huge mistake when it came to Joey, a regret he must live with. But no one really knew how or why it happened.
Shadow doesn’t question love, as he loves so few, but he does question loyalty. The two should go hand in hand but he learned the hard way early in life that they don’t always align. Finding out that those two key elements Lucas had failed at led him to walk away, though his heart felt otherwise.
Maiden Voyage series must be read in order as each book starts where the last one ended but from another band members point of view.
REVIEW:
OMG! OMG! OMG! So freaking good!!!
I couldn’t wait for Shadow’s story. I knew the quiet giant’s quest for love, whether he wanted it or not, was going to be epic. However this surpassed my wildest hopes and desires. His gentle, warm, caring side to his loved ones was such a contrast to his gruff, lack of words, devil may care persona he generated publicly. I was truly touched by his story of his youth, how faith he was to his parents and still went to them when things troubled him. And how family came first in his life…whether blood or chosen was so heartpoundly sweet. And his protective side…just saying I wouldn’t want to be on his bad side for sure, or Tony’s either for that matter!
In this book we finally getting Lucas’s side of what really went down clear back in Social Sinners: Behind The Lights – book 1. Wow I never saw any of that coming! Poor sweet Lucas. What a Loser his sperm donor was!!! Yes Joey and Stoli got there well deserved HEA and were destined to be mates for life but Lucas’s story gutted me! He has been through so much and never really knew what a true parent or family was but only how to be abused by the people that are suppose to love you most. All the “lost boys”, as Lucas referred to himself, Damian and Kiernan, stories are sure to break your heart. Children are not trash that you discard because they don’t fit your expectation of life. And you are NOT allowed to call yourself a parent if you do. You are the trash and should be ashamed of your actions if you can’t accept your own child for who they are!
I can’t hardly stand that this series is coming to an end however, in true TL Travis style, I know that we will see all these guys as the Embrace the Fear series as it continues. All three band, Social Sinners, Maiden Voyage and Embrace the Fear, are scheduled to return on tour together and we will get moments with all our favorite rockers, their mates and their security team. That’s a huge win/win in my books. When I get truly connected to the characters and never want them to leave me it is a bright neon sign to an extremely well constructed book/series and these books span over three series! I can’t recommend this book and these series enough. I do suggest that they need to be read in order.
