BLURB:
What do you do when you’re locked out of your ex’s basement apartment twenty minutes before sunrise?
Seduce the neighbour, of course.
Stranded for the day in a shabby apartment corridor, the vampire Aserad turns his charm (read: unbridled curiosity) on Selan, the unsuspecting human next door. Then he discovers he actually likes this strange spreadsheet nerd—and Selan might have secrets of his own.
REVIEW:
The Vampire Stayed for Breakfast is a cute, sometimes humorous, short story about a young vampire in a quandary when he’s about to be stuck outside – too far from home – with the sun getting ready to rise.
“Homeless vampires did not exist for a reason, and that reason was going to rise in the East in approximately twenty minutes.”
Aserad returns to his boyfriend’s basement apartment at five in the morning, only to find the locks had been changed. Make that an ex-boyfriend. He doesn’t have enough time to make it home before daylight. When he starts kicking on the door, a neighbor, Selan, takes pity on him and invites him in. Not that it’s a hardship – they flirt and agree on a one time only roll in the sheets. Later, they form a tentative friendship.
Aserad wants to bite Selan but …
This is a well written story and I particularly enjoyed the humorous touches. I would’ve enjoyed more Indian culture. As it’s only 35 pages long, an HEA would be unrealistic, but there’s promise for a nice HFN. If Ms. Ratnam ever writes an extended version of Aserad and Selan’s story I would certainly be interested. Recommended.
