I didn’t make any resolutions this year. Partially because *gestures vaguely at everything*. What I have done is make plans.
They sound the same. They aren’t. Not to me, anyhow.
Resolutions always tend to be ‘This year I’ll have the will power to stop doing this thing I don’t like about myself’. Then if you feel you bad about yourself, and like it’s a personal flaw. Plans..have more steps. That means that even if you fail the larger initiative, you’ve accomplished a dozen smaller steps to get to that point. So you can pat yourself on the back about that. Oh, and you can make a spreadsheet for your plans, so that you can actually tick things off as you do them.
I am, indeed, very sexy and spontaneous.
So, what were my New Year’s (actually did a lot of this stuff in December, but we’re still going to count it because it was that nebulous lumpy bit of the year between Christmas and Jan 1) plans? Glad you asked!
I have laid out my publishing plan for the year, including editorial and pre-release dates. Since this is a plan, and not a resolution, I am going to be kind to myself and not set the pre-releases on Amazon. I know people who do and just thrash it year after year? That is not me. I would 100% screw it up at least once and be reduced to hysteria on an ongoing basis. But I have a color coded calendar, I have the books to work on (next one is a contemporary, and then Bone to Pick and Prodigal 2. So hopefully the brain will be in gear for those.)
I am going to the UK. I’ve my tickets paid for, hotel is booked, and I signed up to be a sponsor because god bless it, looking forward to the UK Meet has gotten me through some grumps the last two years! I’ve also priced out swag and still need to…design and pay for that! That’s the hard part!
I have made tentative plans to go to GRL. I will need to see if I get a ticket or not. Hopefully though. It is a bit scary. I’ll have to leave Jax with my mum! She’ll have definitely alienated his affections by the time I get back.
The next plan is a non-writing one! I want to get Jax, the #writingstaffie so I guess not completely non-writery?, ready to do agility classes. I don’t really want to compete, it’s far too much intensity for me. But he likes running and climbing and jumping over things, so I think he’d enjoy classes. Maybe some low-key competitions if they’re just for fun, although they always involved a lot of standing around.
…that’s pretty much it. Except for my ‘List of things I need to buy’ which is just for t-shirts and underwear. So I don’t think anyone cares about that!
What about you guys? Plans? Resolutions? Whimsy? 😀
