Alfie Hope’s life is perfect. Managing Darley Hall for an employer who hasn’t visited the house in five years. It’s more than a job, it’s his home. A safe haven for him and the staff he considers family. That is, until their master passes away and a new master inherits. A new master who wants to live in the house.
Jolyon Mortimer Devereaux was stunned when he inherited Darley Hall. It offered an escape from his life, his lover, and his awful family. He arrives to find an estate manager who is outrageously handsome in a gentle, yet rugged way, but someone who clearly has never been a servant in his life!
Alfie and Jo grow tentatively closer. That is until a shock Christmas arrival blows everything wide apart, leaving Alfie and Jo struggling to hold on to their love. It will take a Christmas miracle to hold them together.
REVIEW:
The whole staff of Darley Hall knows what Alfie’s likes are, Jolyon Mortimer Devereaux is total to Alfie likes. The beautiful man is also far far out of his league, Alfie is the manager of Darley Hall, and Jolyon Mortimer Devereaux is the new owner.
Jolyon Mortimer Devereaux inherited Darley Hall and is happy to move in immediately, away from his family and ex. He’s exhausted and drained.
Slowly Devereaux is settling in his new surroundings, quite appreciated by the staff, only he’s alone and lonely, it hurts to watch him like that.
While both men are attracted to each other, Jo is a bit shy and reluctant, he doesn’t want Alfie to feel like Jo is using his position as owner of Darley Hall. Jo admires the man too much to make him feel less.
Sweet Jo Devereaux is stunned by the warmth of the staff and especially Alfie, they don’t judge him, they accept him as he is, he never belonged, and now he does, in a house filled with love and beautiful people.. Be still my heart.
In the last part are some surprisingly, extraordinary developments, well done!
What an utterly emotional story this is. The historical scenery, early 1800, felt amazingly real, it breathed the zeitgeist and authenticity. The plot has a wonderful depth, somewhat partial development, the necessary parts were present and developed, it was more than enough!
My heart did strange things watching these beautiful men, the touches, the delicacy, the tenderness, all exquisite.
It was an absolutely stunning narrative, I adored it hard. It’s beautifully written, delicate, with the most compassionate people. Yes, this story touched my soul.
