Chapter 2: Aldo Farnese

 

Rook lifted the hem of his shirt to show off his rock-hard abs that I wanted to fall to my knees and worship. Holy shit, how were those real? “I look like this, but they still have me training ten hours a day or more for months to get in shape for a movie.”

I tried not to drool at the free show or dribble any of the batter on the tray. “How do you not hate every single second of that?”

“It’s a small price to pay for the career I have. I’ve become close friends with my trainer, which helps. Shooting the shit with him makes the long hours pass faster. Plus, there’s something Zen about the repetitiveness of the actions.” I mourned the loss when he lowered his shirt. “It’ll be weird not working out in a gym while I’m here.”

“You can’t go to ours because of privacy reasons, but I can be your personal trainer.” While my muscles were small next to his massive ones, I still had impressive definition for someone of my build. “Sometimes I substitute for Kyle when he’s too booked up at our on-site gym or needs a day off, so I’m not just talking out of my ass. I actually have experience with it.”

Rook chuckled as he watched me put the muffins in the oven and start a timer for fifteen minutes. “You’re certainly small enough for me to bench-press.” To my shock, he scooped me off my feet in a smooth gesture, hefted me up like I weighed nothing, then did a few curling reps with me. It wasn’t a fantasy I had ever indulged in before, but it was doing it for me in reality. It was hard not to squeal like my easily excitable siblings. “I normally lift more than one-thirty, but I guess you’ll do in a pinch while I’m on vacation.”

“That’s the spirit.” I wrapped my arms around his neck as I held on, just to see how he would react. Being held like a princess made it too tempting to tease him, especially when his actions were a huge turn-on. “If you want a workout, I’m more than happy to give you one.”

“Why does everything sound like sexual innuendo with you?” He quirked an eyebrow as he looked at me.

“Because it usually is,” I replied with an unrepentant grin. “What can I say? It’s a special talent.”

“I don’t think being a permanent resident in the gutter is a talent.”

“Oh, I disagree.” I purred the words as I toyed with the hair at the base of his neck, sending a shiver through him. “It takes genuine talent to drag a mature man as tightly wound as you down to the gutter with me.”

His expression turned amused. “Is that what you’re trying to do?”

I gave him my best enigmatic grin that was sure to drive him nuts later when he replayed the conversation in his mind. “Maybe.”
