REVIEW:
When Dani messaged me and said she was looking for a reviewer to review the latest installment of Nicola Cameron’s Olympic Cove series, I was more than eager to jump in and do a guest review. I didn’t realize until I was putting this review together that the book came out almost a year ago and I somehow missed it.
I’ll start by saying I thoroughly enjoyed rereading the first three books in preparation for this one. I read about a book a day, so small details… okay I’ll admit, entire storylines and characters can slip my mind if it is long enough. And let me call out Ms. Cameron here, I reviewed the third book in the series, Deep Water, on August 26, 2015 and this one was written in 2020. I thought when received this one to review that it would be a series wrap-up. I’m pretty sure they heard the bear growl I emitted when I flipped the page and realized that this one as well ends in a semi-cliffhanger with no end in sight. Let’s hope that the next installment doesn’t take as many years to write!
So, let’s talk about this current installment, Cross Current. I again thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Cameron’s writing style and her characters. The idea that Greek Gods and other mythological beings are swimming right off the coast of the state I live in, is an idea I can get behind. I’d love to meet a merman in person someday, but unfortunately the closest I usually come is manatees or dolphins.
When Matt Taber’s wife surprises him with a divorce, he needs to get away. He finds a small out of the way called Olympic Cove where he can rent a cottage right on the beach for the rest of the summer before he returns to his job as a schoolteacher. I’m not going to give a lot of spoilers on this one. Suffice it to say that Matt’s life will never be the same after he meets some of the divine beings living in the Cove.
Loved this one. I would very likely have rated it a 5.0 because I enjoyed it so much, but I’m deducting a 0.5 because of the cliffhanger. I highly recommend you start with book one, because they all build on each other and aren’t really standalones. I’m hoping Ms. Cameron has another book in the series coming!
