Ash Barrett is a scientist. He believes in facts. But even he has to admit something supernatural is happening in his apartment. The ghost of his dead fiancé wants something from him. Ash needs reinforcements to figure out what.
Kenny Nguyen, late-night talk show host of Medium to Well, is in the business of helping people finish theirs–of the unfinished and spirit variety. He’s seen it all, but Ash’s deceased love has the most outrageous request Kenny’s heard in a while. He’d say no, except Ash is gorgeous, kind, and willing to do anything to lay his fiancé’s spirit to rest.
If Kenny accepts a ghostly indecent proposal, could Ash still want a relationship after? And for a man who believes in science, can Ash trust what he can’t see and take a chance at love?
Medium to Well is a 53k word paranormal M/M Romance between a haunted marine biologist and a television personality who talks to spirits for a living. This book contains ghostly shenanigans, malevolent spirits and poltergeists who find a change of heart, therapy and grief counseling, a grumpy old mentor, and a haunted Hollywood happily ever after!
REVIEW:
A year after his boyfriend’s death, Ash couldn’t begin to heal from the loss, because Stephen was still very much present in his life…as a ghost. It also seemed like Stephen was adamant that Ash met Kenny Nguyen, medium and host to Medium to Well, a show that Stephen and Ash used to watch together.
Before I began reading the book, I imagined Stephen as a man who had loved his boyfriend so much that he didn’t want to let go, so his spirit still lingered around Ash even after his death. I was ready to have my heart broken because of Stephen, but I’m sorry to say that I actually kinda hated him. For a year he almost terrorized Ash, throwing tantrums and becoming close to violent when he didn’t get things his way. He even pushed Ash, who was on his bicycle, in front of Kenny’s moving car, just to make the two of them meet. Even worse, in my opinion, was Stephen’s demand for letting go of Ash: he wanted to have sex with him one last time, and he could do that only if he took possession of Kenny’s body.
Both Ash and Kenny were reluctant to grant Stephen his wish, and justifiably so. Kenny, especially, had difficulties in trusting his body to a ghost that was obviously voluble and selfish. But, despite his diffidence of Stephen, he was completely charmed by Ash. And I was charmed by both Ash and Kenny. The author helped getting to know them, their histories, thoughts and emotions, both through inner musings and dialogue between the two. The attraction was undeniable, but they decided to get to know each other first, not simply jump into bed and get it over it.
Despite my initial dislike of Stephen, I really enjoyed reading Medium to Well. The writing style is skilled and the story never lost my interest. The premises was definitely fascinating and, for all the peculiar manner they found each other, Ash and Kenny built a strong and believable connection. They were amazing, lovable men and I rooted for their happiness. Their romance was touching and a riveting read that I wholeheartedly recommend.
