BLURB:
Angels are forbidden to interfere with mortal events, only observe. Michael has spent the past few years watching U.S. Army paratrooper Glenn Jernigan from afar. The man has survived combat jumps under fire and made it to the end of his term of service. When flirting with the wrong man places Glenn in danger of losing his life, what’s an angel to do? Sometimes you break the rules.
REVIEW:
Glenn has recently left the service and is waiting to start his new job when he makes a mistake that could cost him his life. Luckily there is intervention, but he’s not out of the woods yet. He’s not sure if he’s dreaming or what because he keeps seeing the same face.
This is a short story that starts off with a bang. Glenn is a guy who hasn’t had an easy life. His parents have rejected him because he was gay. He’s served his time in the service and he’s had hookups, but he has never connected with anyone. When Michael comes around, he thinks just maybe this could be different? But there are obstacles. He’s wiling to work on them and he definitely feels something different with Michael. There are a few twists that make this a compelling story. I was heartbroken to Glenn and he losses he had suffered. I was curious about Michael and how he would fit into Glenn’s life. There are some supportive secondary characters as well. The ultimate reveal I honestly didn’t see coming.
Short story lovers I think will enjoy this one. In just these few pages, we get a sense of both characters and root for them to overcome all of the obstacles that get thrown in their way. Recommended.
