Roly Martinez checklist: EpiPens, burn ointment, and condoms. You gotta come prepared for hate sex.
Heath Treadway has every reason to hate me, and that only serves to fuel our explosive chemistry. Now that we live in the same city again, all I wanna do is show this sexy bear of a man that I’m not the jerk he once knew. My career as a US Navy SEAL, and one op in particular, changed the course of my life, and I’m desperate for him to see the new me.
Unfortunately, my reconciliation efforts so far have ended in hospitalization, second-degree burns, and a broken towel rack.
Not my finest work.
Of course, if he finds out the details of the military operation that forever changed me, it might be game over.
I mean… can he forgive me if I can’t even forgive myself?
Shameless is post-military enemies-to-lovers MM romance set in a gym for combat vets. It features muscled twinks, beautifully-bellied bears, and a four-year-old with a lisp.
Note: This book depicts military violence, but the HEA is guaranteed.
This is the third book in the Wrecked Series. Several characters, including Roly, first appear in Scout and the Lavender Girl, written under my K.C. Littleton pen name.
REVIEW:
Kelly Fox’ Shameless is the long awaited third book where we finally get to read about Roly and how he came to be the Bear Killer. Let me tell you, you will not be disappointed.
In this book, Roly runs into his ‘OG bear crush’, Heath Treadway, as Heath moved to Austin to be closer to his daughters and his best friend, aka his ex-wife, Ashley. We know Heath as the money manager of Jean-Pierre and Scout, but now he is also considering investing in Wrecked. The first meeting between the two refuels Roly’s crush, while for Heath it refuels his hatred for Roly thanks to the nickname Heavy that Roly gave him in school. Despite the hatred, Roly does everything he can to make Heath see him in a positive light. This results in some hilarious failures and some hot successes. I’d say read the book to find out what those are.
I am grateful we finally get a peek inside the mind of the carefree and somewhat slutty cousin of Nick and, let me tell you, still waters run deep. As this is the third book in the series, we already got to know most of the characters quite well, we got to read their stories and it was high time that Roly got to tell his story as he has been a part of the Wrecked family since book one. As in the other books, the author tried to add as many LGBTQIA+ characters as possible, but I am happy to say the author didn’t push it onto every character and actually balanced it this time with straight people and relationships. Speaking of relationships, I must admit that while reading Shameless, I had to put it down a few times because the connection between Roly and Heath wasn’t as healthy as I had hoped at first, but I was happy it got better as the book progressed. And, despite the unhealthy connection at first, I adored the slight enemies-to-lovers aspect from Heath’s side, as Roly’s struggles made me laugh out loud more times than I am willing to admit.
While a lot in the book is light-hearted and funny, Shameless doesn’t shy away from showing the traumatic experiences Roly went through and showing the progress of dealing with the trauma, which is for me a reason I really like these books as none of them have had any trouble with this. Just as in the first two books, Shameless is written in the first person and Roly and Heath sometimes address the reader, which adds to the immersive aspect. Also, the fact that the author puts stuttering, lisping and exclamations like ‘awww yisss’ in the book, which you normally only hear and not read, added to the immersive aspect of the book. This is yet another reason I enjoyed reading the third book just as much as I enjoyed Sanctuary and Surrender, if not even more.
This Wrecked family has grown on me and Shameless is another great story written by a great author and I hope that you enjoy reading this book as much as I did.
