It’s been over a year since JJ and Donnie’s passionate affair. They each try to start a new life following the seismic events caused by their unexpected relationship and heart-rendering split. Yet both men are struggling; Donnie is in serious debt and in trouble with the law, whilst JJ is in the grip of obsession and addiction. Could it be that the young JJ and the older Donnie actually need each other after all, in order to prevent their lives completely falling apart?
This is the second in the series of the ‘Donnie & JJ’ romance, originally inspired by the film ‘Call Me By Your Name’.
REVIEW:
In this story, we meet Donnie and JJ again. It’s been a year since Donnie throw JJ out of his house and JJ left to try his luck and follow his dreams in Italy.
Donnie’s daughter is now a single mother and lives with her father. Donnie himself is without a job, he lives in his ex-wife’s house, and has no money to pay the rent, he’s unhappy and misses JJ. He finally admitted to himself he’s not straight and try to find some relief here and there.
Then there’s JJ’s family, his brother Aron doing time in jail, and Geena, their alcoholic mother, who makes bad choices, and JJ himself try to scrape money for his brother’s lawyer. If we talk about bad choices… It’s all in a downward spiral.
Life isn’t easy for both men, as for their families, until a smart lawyer stepped in.
The story was nice, but way ott. I missed important aspects to get into this story, emotions, connections, flow, depth.
The timeline back/forward, left/right was a bit confusing, after a while I got it.
There is serious stuff going on and it’s all underdeveloped. In my opinion, the content should be in balance with the development, in other words, for me, it should be light-hearted.
To be honest, it’s a nice story but not enough for a loud shout-out, so three small hearts.
