REVIEW:
This is Book Two of the Godstone Saga from Ms. Jocelynn Drake. Our adventure continues. If you have book one of this series, then you have become familiar with our two pairs of main characters whose individual stories we get to learn as we go along with them on their journey through the Ordas and Caspagir (this all happened in book one). We have our beloved Prince (and soon to be King), Caelan Talos, his Advisor Rayne Laurent, his bodyguard Eno Bevyn and last but certainly not the least, the lovable Drayce Ladon, the Prince’s very best friend and bodyguard (though not officially, he is just there because he loves his best friend and is willing to lay down his life for Caelan, and also you cannot really leave him behind because these two are inseparable).
Book two starts 20 hours after the end of book one. In order for Caspagir and its people to survive the invasion of the empire, Caelan decided (on his own) to give himself up to the empire. He told Drayce that it is the only way for them to know what the empire’s plan is. But his friends have to rescue him, within twenty-four hours. After kissing his best friend, Caelan left to surrender himself to the empire’s soldiers. By this time, Caelan has bonded with the God of Storm, Kaes. Caspagir has its own Godstone, and it is the God of Storm who has the ability to create storms and wreck havoc and destruction. While the Goddess of Life, Tula, is the one that Caelan wants to get back to in Stormbreak because after his mother was killed by the empire’s attack on his country, Caelan now has to bond with it as his mother’s heir in order to protect his people and his country.
And because of his confidence in his friends, Caelan knew he’d be rescued. At the last minute (before the twenty-four hours expired), the Lord High Commander Thorald Grim wanted to talk to him. He was brought in front of the Commander and they talked. He learned of a certain woman who was beside the Lord High Commander, seeming to be dictating the Commander. He does not know the woman, although he has a feeling that she is the one really running the show. That’s when chaos erupted. Caelan managed to free himself and proceeded to find his friends. After all the chaos and destruction that followed, Caelan was reunited with his friends and they started to plan their trip back home. But it seems that trouble follows them at every corner. They just cannot trust anyone anymore. Except for his three friends, Caelan doesn’t trust anyone. He learned that the hard way.
Upon reaching Stormbreak by travelling from one of the small towns, much like the one in Caspagir, they started to look for Tomas and Melita. While Eno and Drayce tries to locate them, Rayne and Caelan tries to contact any high-ranking members of the government left. But as is expected, some of these members are trying to choose which side to lean on in order to protect themselves. Once again, Rayne and Caelan found themselves in peril, being imprisoned by one chancellor who has decided that she is better off handing Caelan over to the empire and ruling Stormbreak on her own..
Caelan and his friends have one ultimate goal in this trip back home and that is to bond with the Goddess of Life, Tula. In order for him to achieve that, he and his friends together with Tomas, Melita and General Morgan, must create a distraction big enough so that they could sneak him into the tower where the Godstone is.
As their adventure continues, Caelan and his friends are finding out some truth about themselves. Their bond is strong but sometimes there are things that could rock it. As we continue to follow their epic adventure, we learn to love (and sometimes hate) each and every character they meet. I am eagerly anticipating the next part of their adventure, excited about how Caelan and Drayce will fare now that they have realize that they are more than best friends. Excited and enamored with Rayne and Eno, who are total opposites but are totally meant for each other!
Ms. Jocelynn Drake, once again you have created a world where I will eagerly get lost in. This is one of the best series that I have ever read. This is a series full of adventure, friendship, hardship, trust, respect and love. Love between friends, between comrades and between lovers. All you can ask for is right here. Amazing!
