Tala has the life he wants. His brother leads the pack and deals with all the pesky details of their joint auto shop, leaving him to tinker with the cars. Life is just the way he likes it.
In the blink of an eye, his entire world turns upside down when he’s forced to enter the twilight zone of weird and wacky shifters. If that wasn’t bad enough, the inconceivable mate leads him down a dirt road to unexpected happiness. Only the road has bumps. Two to be precise, and the big wolf is going to learn just how hard it is to keep his seat with a hormonal mate.

REVIEW:
When I first chose this book I knew it was a shifter book and mixed species. When I saw fingerling I assumed young fish. Never it my wildest dreams did I imagine that shifters could be vegetables! How the heck does a wolf and a potato even mate? What the ever-loving heck universe did I fall into now???
I now realize this book was created based on a fan poll. “This book was inspired by a poll and created for Julie (aka Jess) who encouraged me to write an MPreg shifter book.” Although I really liked the grumpy wolf shifter Tala and I fell for Fingerling potato shifter Frenchie as a human, I have to say I’m pretty sure a potato shifter and a wolf shifter as fated mates just doesn’t work for me. The parts where Frenchie shifted back into a potato and rolled around were too weird even for me. and I am not even talking about what happened after because I don’t want to spoiler.
What I did really like about the book, aside from the whole potato shifter thing, was how Frenchie broke through Tala’s tough/grumpy exterior and stole his heart. He even made a bit of a romantic out of him. They actually worked together as a couple and Frenchie worked at getting the pack to respect the Omegas and Betas more. I did want to know what happened between Tala’s twin Olowan and Frenchie’s brother Russ (yeah Russ like russet potato). Did pawning off the the two pups on them to babysit after the mating ceremony finally push the two fated mates to connect and talk like Tala and Frenchie schemed? I thought that we would find out but the book suddenly ended. I don’t know if there is a book two planned for those two or not.
So, all and all, I liked the book a lot, when I looked past the whole potato shifter thing and all it encompassed. I would definitely read this author again. Her writing was engaging. I would just suggest that writing about plant based foods shifting and mating wolf shifters becoming fated mates might be an area she avoid in the future even if a poll suggests it. I did rate the book up because of the connection that I felt with both men when Frenchie wasn’t a potato.
