BLURB:
Levity works the streets of Welcome Boulevard, begging people for money. It keeps food in his belly, a leaky roof over his head, and he gets to do it with his best friend, Clove. No, it’s not the ideal life, but he does what he must to survive.
Salvatore Grillo is a man who is used to getting what he wants. He’s a loyal brother to his autistic sister, runs numerous business empires, and knows how to make people to bend to his will. It’s not often someone comes along and shakes things up. And then Levity smiles at him.
Levity’s idea to pull in more money draws Salvatore’s attention, and while being the focus of a crime boss should be terrifying, Levity is intrigued by the man. Not to mention, Sal is as gorgeous as he is powerful. The two gravitate toward one another and soon are wrapped up tightly in each other’s worlds. When enemies try to break through their doors and their lives, Salvatore has to do everything in his power to save not just himself but Levity too.
Not knowing who is behind all the chaos or when they will strike makes their happily ever after almost impossible. Time’s running out for Sal and Levity. Will they survive, or will their story end before it’s even begun?
REVIEW:
Homelessness has become a big problem in most countries and a lot of the causes that resulted to these are because of the status of the economy of those countries. My country has a lot of homeless people and the government seems incapable of finding any solution to the problem. So of course, the people affected by it have to find ways in order to survive the streets/outdoors. They beg, they do odd jobs just to have food to eat and maybe find some shelter for that day. They even become members of organizations just so they could earn in order to survive the day-to-day challenges of life. And maybe have some semblance of a life.
This is where we find Levity and his best friend, Clove. They panhandle for someone and they take in a little percentage of what they get for the day. For them, it is a way to survive, especially with all sorts of predators lurking about. They also protect each other as much as they can.
Salvatore was handed the business by his father when the older man decided to retire a few years back. Not really looking closely into all the businesses that he inherited, Sal just continued whatever his father had started. But when a situation was brought to him and he found out that things may not what it seemed to be, he thought that maybe he ought to look closely into things. In particular, things that have been happening along Welcome Boulevard. As things unfolded, he realized that maybe it is time for some changes to happen. It took for someone like Levity to make him see that maybe he doesn’t want to continue whatever his father had started.
Levity, as his name suggests, tries to make his life and those around him just a little bit lighter. It takes the edge off the dire situation his life is on on a daily basis. His best friend, Clove, and Maze, a young girl they have become close to, are as close to a family as he has ever had. When a situation happened that ended with him badly beaten, his life and those of his friends, took on a different path. A new hope was offered to him but before he/they could get on to that path, they have to fight off someone who is determined to destroy what they are starting to have because of greed.
I love the beginning part of the story, the first half was really riveting. Halfway through though, I thought the pace changed, the turn of events became faster and I felt that there was not a lot of build-up for it all. Things and situations started to come on top of each other. I was confused for a little bit because all of a sudden there were more characters appearing, although secondary characters, but it threw me off for a while. I love my bit of drama and angst.
Ms. Davidson King is able to entice us to start on this new series, what with interesting characters like Levity and Sal, Clove and Marcel and my favorite storyline, action with mystery. I am certainly looking forward to the next book.
