New Year Not You by Edie Montreux
Last year, law student Brady Madison’s binge drinking left him naked, unconscious, and in trouble with the law. Now 350 days sober and with only two weeks to serve the last twelve hours of community service, Brady’s faced with another difficult choice: take an offer from the jerk who took the incriminating pics or spend the remaining hours in jail.
Tate Quinn’s snap judgment in Brady’s hotel room on New Year’s Eve ruined any chance he had of hooking up with Brady. Worse, his parents refuse to pay for another semester of grad school until he makes his mom’s New Year’s charity event a success.
Tate needs a volunteer to help him herd the cats, er, kids, at the New Year’s Eve afternoon party, and Brady has always been good with kids. Can they put aside their past anger and shame for six hours, or will these potential lovers turned enemies resolve to remain enemies in the new year?
New Year Not You is a 55k word enemies to lovers M/M Romance between a recovering alcoholic and a recovering man-child. This novel has an AA sponsor moonlighting as a DJ, a cold war between two moms, and two dudes who are not looking for true love (but find it anyway).

It’s New Year’s Eve and Tate is late for his 8 p.m. date with Brady. This is the beginning of the string of events that cause a yearlong rift between them:
It was already eight thirty when he left the library, and it took him another twenty minutes to drive home. His parents had already left for the Madison’s New Year’s Bash. Shit. If Brady saw them but didn’t see him … he should text. His phone stuck to the inside jacket pocket. Right. A kid had tossed it in the punch bowl, but it still worked.
He stared at the black screen as he mashed the power button. It still worked, right?
No, it was not working. Shit. He would deal with that in a minute.
Hurry, hurry, hurry. Iron tux. The iron took forever to heat up, and then it needed water to get the deep crevices out of the fabric.
Worse, the rest of him was a mess. He had a white, pasty streak of what he hoped was mashed potatoes smeared across his forehead. A glob of green goo that may once have been gelatin salad hung from his left earlobe, and there was a trail of green in his hair. He didn’t have time to look himself over for additional food remnants. He stripped out of his clothes and jumped into the shower, not even waiting for the water to warm up.
Still in his towel, he stopped by Kara’s room. “I need your phone.”
His nine-year-old sister had a cell phone. All she could do was call, text, and take pictures, but that was more than enough in a pinch.
She was already tucked into bed, probably how Mom and Dad had left her for the night, but she’d already turned her bedside lamp on and had her nose in a book.
“Why?” she asked, not bothering to look up.
“Nicholas tossed mine in the punch bowl.”
She knew. She’d been there. She giggled and flashed him a devious grin. “That’s right. He did.”
“Little sister, if you talked your boy toy into destroying my iPhone, I’m going to strangle you.”
“No, you won’t. You love me,” she said. “My phone is in the drawer.” She pointed to the nightstand beside her.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t do anything ridiculous.”
“It’s me,” he said. “Anything could happen.”
She stuck her tongue out at him as he lifted the rhinestone-dotted pink phone from the drawer. His coattails would hide it from most onlookers. It would make a fun conversation piece if Brady asked him about it. He still felt nervous around Brady, but not as nervous as he had with random hook-ups. Leaning on his shoulder at the party, and then that kiss … Tate hoped they could do more of that.
