A night to remember, a confession, and a lifetime of love in this small town, friends to lovers Christmas romance.
Blurb
Andrew Lawson’s life in Sacramento has turned from being everything he dreamed of growing up, to a lonely place where finding someone special to share his life with is impossible. When the first person he meets on returning home for Thanksgiving is his childhood friend Link, it’s a reminder of happier times when his whole future lay in front of him. Agreeing to a drink before heading to his parent’s place is a way to reconnect, and a great way to start the holiday.
Link Stanton never considered leaving the small farming town he grew up in, but he misses Andy more than he’ll ever admit. Secretly lusting after a friend is bad enough but being in love with him is so much worse. One drink with friends seems harmless enough, after all, catching up on old times can’t be a bad thing, until beers turn to shots, and Link reveals how he really feels.
Everything could change, and if Andy doesn’t remember Link’s heartfelt confession, they could carry on as friends. But if he does remember, this could be either the worst, or the best, Christmas of all.
He blew out a breath and slowly moved closer again. “You really don’t remember anything about last night?”
“Nope,” I said with a pop. And I really didn’t. I knew more had happened, but I had no idea what that was. “Is there something you want to tell me about?”
His eyes locked with mine and he grinned while he shook his head. “I think I’d rather let you figure it out.”
I reached for his belt loop and this time it was me that pulled him closer. “So, tell me this, was that our first kiss?”
He made a motion of zipping his lips and throwing the key away. “I’m not saying anything.” He glanced toward the door as the first few chords of a guitar played. “Let’s go inside.”
“Wait! I want to talk a little longer.” I actually hoped if we stayed out here, I could convince him to tell me more about what I didn’t remember.
“I want to dance with you again.” He grinned and kissed my cheek, and in that moment, I knew I was fucked as I reached up and covered the spot he’d kissed.
“Wait, we danced?” He turned and smiled as he pulled me back into the bar and right onto the dancefloor. Blair and Jase smiled, and she gave me a thumbs up. What was going on? Everyone seemed to know a hell of a lot more than I did. She rolled her eyes and went back to dancing. Link pulled on my hand and didn’t waste any time resting his hands on my hips as he started to dance.
I tried not to smile, but failed miserably and before I knew it, I was dancing too. The crowd thickened and we were pushed closer together, and he acted like this was something we did every weekend, and it wasn’t strange that my childhood best friend was dancing with me like he couldn’t get close enough. I felt the pull to him too, and my body seemed unable to resist being closer to him than we were, which wasn’t far at all. “So, tell me what happened last night.” I tried to break the spell he had over me with a conversation. But when his eyes met mine again, the warmth and familiarity were there the same as always, but now there was something I hadn’t noticed before. Or maybe I had, and I ignored it.
“I’d rather you remember it on your own.”
“What if I don’t? Then will you tell me?” It was killing me. I wanted to know exactly what had happened, and that last shot had apparently erased any memory I had of it.
“I’ll make you a deal. If you haven’t remembered by Christmas, I’ll tell you all about it.”
“Did I do anything embarrassing?” I hoped not, but I didn’t think that’s what this was about.
His smile was reassuring, and his thumb dragging across my lip did things to me I wasn’t sure I was ready to think about. “No, not at all. I don’t think so anyway.”
It was loud in the bar with the band playing, and a full house, but I heard him as clearly as if he’d yelled. “So, no hints?” I wasn’t sure what this game was we were playing, but I had to admit I was intrigued, and I hoped I really hadn’t done anything embarrassing. I thought back to a few times I did drink too much and ended up doing stupid shit, but Link had been there, and he’d never made me feel bad for it.
He smiled and pulled me close enough to lay his head on my shoulder before he turned to whisper in my ear. “No hints, just enjoy the night. You can worry about everything else later.”
BL Maxwell grew up in a small town listening to her grandfather spin tales about his childhood. Later she became an avid reader and after a certain vampire series she became obsessed with fanfiction. She soon discovered Slash fanfiction and later discovered the MM genre and was hooked.
