World-renowned Chef Prescott Vaughan was at the height of his career. Right before he’s to leave for Paris to work alongside his idol, a horrific car accident leaves him completely blind.
His female fiance leaves him in a state of desperation and depression. He pines for love and companionship and so happens to find it in the form of his very sexy neighbor. His sexy male neighbor, Dr. Rickson “Ric” Edwards.
Prescott’s not gay – at least he never considered himself gay – until Ric saves him from a date gone terribly wrong. The two neighbors hit it off quickly, and things are great until Ric begins to have his doubts about meeting Prescott’s many wants.
When Ric insists he and Prescott take a breather, Pres finds himself lonely and lacking again. Enter male escort and aspiring chef Blair McKenzie to fill the void.
When Ric is finally ready and returns to claim Prescott, he’s not sure that Pres can let go of the sexy, Southern hotness that is Blair McKenzie.
Pres soon realizes that there’s no need to choose between his two men, because when all three of them finally come together – grab a cold drink – the heat is going to go all the way up!
REVIEW:
This is the second A.E. Via book that I’ve listened to. She creates interesting characters and situations, but for my taste, she’s a bit too enamored of torturing her main characters before getting on with the story.
Pres seems too smart to foolishly put up with his “girlfriend” as long as he does. That he’s so successful professionally, even after being blinded suggests that he’s got an assertive, active personality. To have allowed a clearly gold digging girlfriend to treat him the way that’s depicted, seemed unrealistic. Sure, it’s dramatic, but a bit overstated.
On the other hand, the friendship (and more) that between Pres and Ric was satisfying to read. But even their stormy blow-ups seemed less believable than I’d have expected. Both of their professions require a certain amount of restraint and diplomacy.
When Blair enters the picture, the story really started getting interesting. And while Ric might initially seen it as a rivalry, once the concept of a throuple became clear, this story took on a whole new dynamic. There really CAN be too much of a good thing but this relationship isn’t that. It does need some additional work though, and seeing the guys work out the kinks was quite fun.
Sean Crisden does his usual workmanlike job as audiobook narrator. The basic narration is clear and well paced. He gives distinctive voices to Pres and Ric, and Blair so that they each gain some additional dimension.
This tale is pure fantasy fulfillment… how can three guys all be so good looking, so successful, and so happy in a three-way relationship? That said, it’s great fun to read and very satisfying to listen to. The sex that’s presented is pretty hot and pretty graphic but possibly not quite as omnipresent as in a few other books I’ve been listening to lately.
I enjoyed it quite a lot.
