My name is Patrick Neumann, and I have the world’s worst-kept secret—I’m in love with my boss, Aaron (aka: Nyx), and everyone knows it but him.
You’d think an award-winning romance author would be able to spot his own happily ever after a mile away, but nope. Aaron is clueless. I could show up on his doorstep in a jockstrap with a rose clenched between my teeth and he’d still think I only want to be friends.
Which is why I’ve written myself my own perfect happily ever after and published it under my new secret pen name: Miller Night. It’s seventy thousand words of sweet, steamy romance starring thinly veiled versions of me and Aaron—all my deepest, darkest desires spelled out right there on the page. I haven’t been subtle about it, but I’m not worried. It’s not like Aaron will read it. And even if he does, he’s so oblivious he’ll never figure out that Miller is really me.
Nyx
I’ve read a lot of romance novels in my life, but the one I just finished is the most perfect of all. It’s swoony, sweet, indulgent, and so hot the words almost melt off the page. It’s so good that if I didn’t know better, I’d think it was written just for me.
Best of all, it’s helped distract me from the feelings I shouldn’t be having for my cute blue-haired personal assistant, Patrick.
I don’t know the author who wrote it, but I need to be his friend.
Miller Night, watch out, because I’m going to make you mine.
Sweet Thing is the second book in the Masters of Romance series, where romance authors don’t just write about happily ever afters—they live them. Get ready for love, laughter, and some serious steam. No cheating and no love triangles, guaranteed. This boss/employee, friends to lovers, secret identity rom-com romp of a book can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s way more fun to binge them all. Which author are you most excited to see get his HEA?
REVIEW:
Aaron Upton (aka Nyx Cosgrove), successful gay romance author really likes his Personal Assistant, Patrick. Patrick has been stupidly in love with Aaron since he started working with him the year before. Patrick cannot seem to get over his nerve and just confess to Aaron how he feels. So instead, Patrick writes a romance novel himself under the pen name Miller Night that lays out their story and how he wants their romance to play out. When that novel hits the best seller list and Aaron falls for the book, he’s determined to make friends with Miller and write books with him. He’s over the moon about the book – which he considers to be perfect.
Aaron’s writer pals are also loving Miller’s book. They are convinced that it’s a new pen name for an established author because of clues that this “new author” knows the ins and outs of publishing. They are determined to uncover the truth of who Miller Night is.
Aaron’s brothers are his best friends. He spends a lot of time with his family and when he invites Patrick to join them, there are some pretty hilarious misunderstandings. Aaron is so protective and caring about Patrick but he doesn’t want to do anything to hurt him and he also thinks Patrick has a boyfriend. Aaron’s brothers are a LOT less oblivious and their teasing is hilarious!
When Aaron’s author pals and Aaron discover who Miller Night is though, it’s a complete surprise. To everyone. And Aaron is FINALLY able to see what’s right in front of him 😀 Patrick is shocked that Aaron has figured it out, but he’s also happy because he’s been getting nowhere trying to work up his nerve to confess his feelings. Their coming together is everything Patrick has ever wanted and Aaron could not be happier. It’s adorable how they work out their relationship after the slow dance they’ve been doing. But everyone is there to support them and help them over the finish line!
Clearly this story is the epitome of Truth in Advertising. Everything about it was just sweet. Patrick, who is the sweetest, though somewhat reticent, PA in the world. Aaron is the sweetest most caring, although completely oblivious, boss in the world. The two of them are blindly stumbling around tripping over their own feet 😉 Luckily they have friends and family who are able to help them find their way. I was a littls surprised by just how clueless Aaron was. I guess I would have expected who writes romances to have a better handle – but honestly I work in HR and it’s like the cobbler’s children with no shoes, so this really should be that shocking 😉 This is the least angsty, sweetest, schmoopiest love story every -0 so if that’s your jam you will LOVE this.
Michael Ferraiuolo did a great job narrating this story. There is little conflict, but there is a lot of humor, a lot of voices and a lot of sweet and sexy moments. Well done! Highly recommended for yet another wonderful performance!
