I’m a teacher who has only one thing missing from his life: a healthy relationship. I have a plan in place. This should be easy. No more toxic men. No more casual hookups. I want something real. A love that’s equal, not lopsided. I’m a fixer at heart, but I’m done with the hopeless and the selfish.
Rafe
I’m a dad. Pure and simple. The only thing I want is for my daughter to be happy and healthy. I keep my head down. I work like crazy, and I found her a great school in a new place. I don’t have time for anything else but her. She has my heart, leaving little for anyone else.
When this kindergarten teacher and single father come together, something has to give. Lines are crossed. Secrets are shared. Hearts shatter. Who knows? Maybe they can teach each other something.
REVIEW:
A new-to-me author that I am is looking forward to reading more of her books now.
Rafe is doing everything he can for his precious five year old daughter. She is the light of his otherwise very dark life. He has the world on his shoulders since his wife’s death when Hailey was just a year old. Thankfully he has his Aunt Jo that adores them both. She is the only one that ever believed in him and accepted him as he truly was. But now he’s moved to a suburb of Kansas City for a new job and has no one he can depend on. When he takes Hailey to meet her new Kindergarten teacher he has the surprise of his life. It seems there was some kind of misprint or error and Miss Burke is actually the hunky Mr Burke. When Rafe is in a tight jam at work he reaches out to the only person he truly trusts in town with his daughter…her teacher. But when sparks fly and both men realize that they are both gay rules seem to need to be broken and there’s no going back!
Rafe’s story was a rough one. The people that were suppose to love and care for him turned on him and made him the lonely, closed off shell of a young man he was. If not for his precious daughter Hailey and his Aunt Jo, his life would have been totally ruined. When his best friend /wife died suddenly he blamed himself. But she was selfish and made him miserable by trying to do the right thing. She should had been the one there for him but she wound up doing the most damage at a very young age. The one bright thing to materialize from their relationship was Hailey!
Nolan just wants to meet someone nice, who is not broken and needs fixing, and have a healthy, loving relationship. That sounds simple enough in theory but wishes are sometimes hard to fulfill. When Rafe walks into his classroom with his sweet, bubbly daughter Hailey he knows this is going to be a problem. He can’t keep his eyes (or his thoughts) off the sexy single dad. Although Rafe might be a bit damaged I wouldn’t call him broken. He just needed the love, faith and support of a man as wonderful and dedicated as Nolan. But I did worry quite a bit that Nolan was going to get really hurt.
It was hard to see Rafe throw away everything that was better for him just because he felt he was cursed relationship wise. It was wonderful to watch him finally let go and trust love. It wasn’t easy but when you have someone as special as Nolan in your life change is inevitable! Thankfully Nolan never gave up no matter how heart-broken he was.
Although this doesn’t have a series name yet the author wrote at the end that she’s not through with this universe. Gavin, Nolan’s best friend since childhood, is getting his own book next. As close as those two are I’m sure we will get to see at least glimpses of Nolan, Rafe and Hailey at get togethers at Nolan’s parents home. I personally can’t wait.
