TITLE: Sluggo Snares a Vampire
AUTHOR: Rick R. Reed
PUBLISHER: JMS Books
LENGTH: 21 Pages
RELEASE DATE: April 2010
BLURB:
When Sluggo cruises online chat rooms, he isn’t looking for a hook-up; he’s looking for love. But love has a way of being elusive, especially when you’re not being honest. Presenting himself as “Sir Raven,” Sluggo promises his chat room cohorts he’s the “master of the night.”
And then he meets someone who challenges him — someone who claims the title “master of the night” as his own. TepesAllure’s enigmatic and flirtatious messages to Sluggo start out as fun banter, but quickly turn to eerie disquiet.
As the night unfolds, so do the advances of TepesAllure … and even when Sluggo tries to escape, he finds that getting out is not nearly as easy as getting in.
NOTE: This story appears in the author’s collection, Unhinged.
Genres: Gay / Erotic Horror / Dark Fantasy / Vampire
REVIEW:
With Halloween approaching I thought it might be time to read something that elicited a few chills. This short by veteran writer Rick R. Reed does that.
Sluggo is a past his prime balding banker, who can’t really recall the last time he got laid. He’s quickly developed an addiction to internet chat rooms where in his persona as Sir Raven, a svelt and sexy cubano, he gets off and gets others off. But when he encounters TepesAllure he quickly becomes aware that he’s not the biggest catfish in the sea. Yet the guy seems to know way more about the “real life” Sluggo than he should…
There’s nothing terribly new in this (now more than 10 year old) tale of cat-fishing, and horror but it’s still a fast, fun and chilling read from an author with a gift for spinning engaging tales. This tale feels like it could easily have been introduced by a chain smoking Rod Serling, but maybe more Night Gallery than Twilight Zone. Download it ASAP, but perhaps sprinkle a little Holy water on that Kindle before reading this one on a “dark and stormy night.”
