The Bonds of Family by Christie Gordon
In Life and Blood, Book 3 (finale)
Are the ties between bonded vampires stronger than blood?
Julian, taken at birth from a Louisiana hospital and forced into a vampire coven, is forbidden by those who’ve freed him from seeking out his still-human twin brother. Julian’s new to the rules and regulations of the Templar and isn’t one to follow orders. But going against the rules also means betraying and deceiving his One, his bonded mate and could bring death or imprisonment to himself and those he loves.
Sebastian has finally found his mate after 1,500 years and the threat of Julian’s old coven is behind them. Now, he settles into a normal life with Julian, attempting to raise a human, preteen son, a child that Julian unwittingly stole as an infant from a Russian orphanage.
As Julian plots behind Sebastian’s back, he threatens the special bond they share, but his obsession with his twin won’t be denied. In order to have his mate and his twin, he must risk it all.

Later that evening, Julian, still dressed in his t-shirt and jeans, propped up Sebastian’s laptop on the coffee table. As he bent forward on the couch, his fingers typed quickly over the keys, first running a search on Prideaux. “So, it’s an English name.” He’d have thought it was French with the spelling.
Then he typed in Pride Hardware. Listings came up for the company website and locations. He clicked on the website link and the home page displayed a banner with the title, “Pride Hardware comes to California.” He clicked on the banner and came to a page with the address of the new store and pictures.
As he scanned the content of the page, he scowled. There were no pictures of his family anywhere, no information about them at all. “Shit. Why wouldn’t they at least have a founder’s picture?” He might consider ending this little effort if he could at least see what a blood relative looked like.
He clicked back to run another search, this time inputting his surname and clicking on images. Pictures of people came up on the screen. He clicked through them, attempting to associate any of them to the hardware chain or Louisiana, but came up empty. “Damn it. There’s got to be something out there.” It was as if they didn’t have any internet footprint on purpose.
He didn’t need Sebastian seeing what he’d been searching on. He pressed his lips together, then frowned and clicked on history in the browser, deleting the web pages he’d seen. With a huff, he slammed the laptop closed.
The front door creaked open. Sebastian entered the house and shut the door, keeping his back turned to Julian.
A wave of anger tore through the invisible thread he shared with Sebastian. “What’s wrong?” Did Sebastian see what I was doing somehow? He dropped his mouth open and stared at Sebastian.
As Sebastian twisted to face Julian, he narrowed his eyes and flared his nostrils. “I hear you are not giving up this scheme to search out your family.”
“No, I—”
“Silence.” Sebastian held up his hand. “I knew I felt something, hidden emotions of some kind.” He stared at the wall, the muscle in his jaw bulging, then focused on Julian.
He should have known Maggie would tell on him. “Did Maggie tell you that?” He glared at Sebastian, thinning his lips.
“That is of no consequence.” He dashed at Julian, halting only inches from his face. “Continuing to search out your family is in direct defiance of my master. Of the Templars.”
Julian lurched back on the couch, gasping. Sebastian had never come at him like that. “B-but I didn’t mean to defy anyone. I only wanted to—”
“I know what you wanted, and you were told it is impossible. It is dangerous to your family and to us. Do you understand? The punishment for disobeying a command from my master is very grave.” Sebastian fixated on Julian a moment, then relaxed.
What he was doing was wrong, plain, and simple. “I’m sorry, Sebastian. I can’t help but think about it.” He tilted his head forward, wrinkling his forehead. “I’m sorry.” He had to stop. But could he? It was as if a tight vice wound around his heart and squeezed. He clenched his fists, shaking his head. “I can’t help it.” Finally, he was admitting the truth.

About the Author:
Christie Gordon started writing gay and M/M romance fiction after becoming preoccupied with anime and in particular, the boys love and yaoi genres. She’s always had stories in her head and always enjoyed writing, so she took up fiction writing classes at a local community college and published her first book with eXtasy Books back in 2009. Christie likes to write complicated characters with painful pasts that refuse to be ignored until the characters are forced to face them head on. Angst? Yes. Happily ever after? Always. It’s the struggle to get there that counts.
Christie’s day job is in the high-tech industry with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration. She currently lives in the Phoenix, Arizona metro area and enjoyed eight years in the Bay Area of California but grew up in Minnesota. She shares a home with her partner of twelve years, a musician by night and a coder by day, who is currently in three bands, giving her plenty of time to keep writing. She is also a mother of two sons, one currently in college for engineering and the other preparing for nursing college. Her one-eyed, rescue pug is always by her side, snoring the day away.
