IN A LAST BID TO SURVIVE, THE VOID RAVAGES THE EARTH WITH DEVASTATION AND DEATH. BUT WE NEVER FIGHT ALONE.
In the bleakest of times, Eternity sends a Flight — those some call guardian angels, saints, guides — to gather together an unlikely group of spiritual warriors:
- An ex-cop almost broken by the brutal deaths of innocents.
- An Olympic champion, ripped from competition
- An orphaned teen, whose father died on death row.
- And an unassuming woman, sharing her psychic gift without fame or fanfare, who will be thrust into the center of the maelstrom, destined to lead this team of courageous misfits.
The Foundation team will battle the Void in a partnership with Eternity, knowing only the Light can stop it, only the Light can heal us….
…and only we can bring the Light.

The “Between Two Doors” series is metaphysical realism: METAPHYSICS: refers to the ultimate nature of existence, reality, and experience not bound to any theological doctrine or dogma.

The Flight is book One in the “Between Two Doors” series featuring Hunter Dane, Camden Snow and other characters from the RiverHart universe. Hunting Asher Gamble — an edited version of Psychic Men from the “Hunt&Cam4Ever” series — is a prequel to The Flight. It is not necessary to read the prequel, but it does give depth to this book.
Like all Adira August books, Flight is fiction based on reality. You’ll find references in the Appendix as you do in most AA books. Book Two, ONSLAUGHT: Angels & Madmen is in progress.
REVIEW:
Note: This story takes place in parallel with the Hunt&Cam4Ever series just after Psychic Men and Secret Men. The cast of characters are familiar as Hunter and Cam are moving forward in their lives and work. Although it’s not completely necessary to read the the first 5 Hunt&Cam4Ever series, I highly recommend them.
Cam is working full time on funding for his foundation. He wants to continue Anne Tussey’s research on what happens when we die and how some people can communicate with “discarnate” (I love that word). But he wants to keep control of how this is done. It’s obvious someone or some group wants to discredit her. It’s been going on for some time – since Anne disappeared years before. Neither Cam nor Hunter is sure who they can trust nor what motives can be ascribed to those who profess to want to assist them.
In parallel, Asher Gamble, a young medium for whom Hunt and Cam feel somewhat responsible, is learning about his gifts and being mentored by Alessandra Dark. She herself is a gifted medium, but she is not seeking to call attention to herself. She wants to bring comfort and information to those who need it.
As the story moves forward we are introduced to a lot of new concepts (at least for me). Characters are not who we assume them to be. Characters are not what we assume them to be. Timespace is a concept that we learn about. Abilities and senses and paths are described and transformed as the story moves forward. Around every corner of this story are new ideas and surprises that lead to a lot more questions.
For fans of Hunt and Cam, this story does align with the events in their life from about book five onward. There is a lot more information about Cam’s work at the Foundation. Lissa is integral to everything that is happening as she is part of the physical and metaphysical worlds. We also continue to get to know Hunt’s team and revisit old characters – including my favorite Woodward.
I’m struggling with not spoiling any of this book for new readers! There is a lot of super fascinating and engaging information in this book that left me wanting to know more. Adira August always bases her books on real world cases and concepts and research and facts. This was a whole new world to me and I was left wanting more. I absolutely cannot wait for the next books.
I highly recommend this book if you have ever wondered about why we are here, what happens after our physical bodies are gone, are there those who can communicate on more than just the physical plane of our existence, who and what are providing guidance in the world. Fascinating and engaging and so very interesting and intriguing. Do yourself a favor and read the Hun and Cam books and then dive into this one. It’s a whole new type of story but with the elements that we all love from the previous series. Things aren’t always as they seem, but all will be revealed 🙂
