REVIEW:
Exciting new author‘s first novel and it’s a touchdown!
When Ace accompanies his Mom to their villa in Boca Raton he has no idea that his life will change forever. In an effort to keep Ace busy, their hired help Ms. June brings her son Patrick over so Mrs. DéRochard can get some rest after fleeing her husband and his newest plaything’s public indiscretion. The boys hit it off immediately despite their vast socioeconomic discrepancies. And the fact that Ace has never had a black friend didn’t seem to matter. When a stole kiss between the two young teenage boys festers for two long years the next time they meet was bound to be explosive! When a series of misunderstandings/miscommunications/tragedy drives the two lovers apart for seven long years there is so much pent up mistrust and anger. But when that pent up energy becomes too much will they survive the fallout?
Can I just state for the record…I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!!! And not knowing when the next book is due out is torture for me. That being said…I really, really loved this book! I am having a super hard time believing that this is the author’s first book. She put it all out there and it worked! I just hope that she doesn’t make me wait too awfully long between this book and the next one.
What killed me was the miscommunication between the two boys. I get that there was a lag between their first meeting and Ace’s second trip down. That part made sense. They were teenage boys and it was only a kiss. What hurt was Ace’s lack of trust, which I’m sure was somehow natural given his dad’s dalliances at his beloved Mom’s expense. The way he went for the jugular when he thought the worse of Pat was particularly vicious but he was just 18 and maturity wasn’t there yet. And poor Pat, tragically loosing his brother that way was heart wrenching. It was obvious that he adored and idolized his older brother Lamar. But mistakes can come with high consequences.
I did love how passionate that both men were for each other. They simply couldn’t let the other man, no matter how hurt they had been by the other, out of their minds or heart any longer.
I really am looking forward to this new author’s next book and how it will all play out. Great first time book by a truly gifted author.
