PUBLISHER: Self Published
LENGTH: 315 Pages
RELEASE DATE: September 16, 2021
BLURB:
As personal assistant to a powerful alpha of a large pack, there are certain rules Jamie has for himself to make sure he’s successful at his job.
First, nothing and no one gets to the alpha without his say so.
Second, schedules will be enforced for everyone. At all costs.
Third, a certain Enforcer with an enticing scent and scarred face is not to be stared at, drooled over, and/or daydreamed about.
And fourth, human hunters are never, ever mate material—no matter what their smiles or Southern drawls do to him.
But what if his own rules are preventing Jamie from finding something unique and magical and hotter than he could ever imagine? Because being caught between a grumpy cougar and a dangerous hunter was the last place Jamie thought he should be… but it might just be exactly where he needs to be to find both of his fated mates.
REVIEW:
I have loved this series from the very first book, and I believe the author’s writing style gets better with each new release. Since this is the fourth book in the series I’d really recommend that you don’t attempt it as a standalone. It’s possible, I guess, since the author moves on to new main characters in each book, but without a doubt you are going to want to know all about the rest of the pack anyway, so why not just start at the beginning.
Jamie has been a favourite of mine from his first appearance in the series – which don’t quote me, but I believe it was maybe in a short story that came out after book #1. Drake is a heart stealer from the moment he is so badly injured in the first book, and Gabriel…well I really liked Gabriel until I realized he was going to be a third in this relationship, then I wasn’t too sure. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a good menage, but sometimes in a series if you already have a couple all lined up in your head, the discovery of a third can be a little off putting.
In this book, the menage aspect totally worked, except, I can’t say I really enjoyed it when the ‘first couple’ get together. It’s entirely possible that it’s just a me thing, personal preference as to how you want the relationship to go (you know how finicky we readers can be). But when the first two MCs hook up, even knowing that they both also want the third and that he’ll end up part of the HEA too, it all seemed really sad! Like, I felt this guy’s despair that the two men were moving on without him (and yay, well written Ms. Clark) but this isn’t one of the series that I read to experience sadness. This series is meant to make me happy. And it did do that. Absolutely, I loved this book once the third MC managed to get to a place where he was ready to join the relationship. To me the book felt like it was in two parts, and I really preferred the part that came after the men had sorted out their shit.
The overarching plot of this series continued nicely in this story. I appreciate the way that this series doesn’t include any books that happen outside of that overreaching storyline, because when series have those random books thrown in, I always find myself disappointed and wanting to know what’s going on. Instead, as always, we get plenty of time spent with the rest of the Kincaid pack, with Gabriel’s mysterious witch friend once more making an appearance as well.
If I have any major complaint it’s that we have to wait soooooo long for the next book to come out (mid-next year at this stage) and then, I am also deperate to read Doc’s book too. And I am absolutely not a patient person.
