REVIEW:
Blue Collar Boys Bond over Doggos
These four tales all involve New Mexico Lawmen and the dogs in their lives.
A Cop and a Con – K9 officer Perry Parker and his furry partner, Badger, pic up a man (and his stray pup) walking along the highway at night. The man, Ike Hernandez is returning to the town he grew up in, after being released from a Texas prison. The two men bond as Perry helps Ike transition back into civilian life – with the help of their two fur-babies.
Dogjacked – Deputy Dan meets Travel writer Trek when Trek’s car is stolen, only to have the theft foiled by Trek’s faithful “pittie” Commando. Because Commando bit the would be thief, he must wait out a quarantine. Dan and Trek find that they have more in common than a love of dogs while Commando serves out his sentence.
Saved By Sam – Ex Navy Corpsman and now bartender, Roy Dunham, meets Officer Rommel when Rommel pursues a suspected drug dealer into Roy’s place of employment. When the drug dealer takes Roy hostage, and Sampson, Rommel’s four footed partner saves Roy from the gunman, both Sampson and Officer Rommel are wounded. It’s the least that Roy can do to provide some on-site first aid. Before the two wounded fully recover, Roy finds himself doing a LOT more than his least.
Schnickelfritz in Love – When Lead Electrician Jake’s Schnauzer, Snick, accosts retired racing greyhound, Athena, at the dog park, undercover detective, Boz, confronts Jake about controlling his animal. The two soon discover that they themselves have animal urges… that they’d rather NOT control.
These four tales all involve dogs and at least one lawman. They are fun, earthy tales about men in the mid thirties meeting up. There aren’t a lot of “firsts” in these tails…err tales. But there is heart, and warmth, and plenty of “feels.” The men in these tales all feel as if they’re graduate students in the “school of hard knocks.” It’s really nice to see these folks getting their share of some of life’s joy.
They say that “every dog has his day.” It’s sort of nice to see that applied to these “everymen” as well.
