A Valleywood Novel, Book 6
Sam and Charlie Dunlap have been mated for years. They both have secure jobs and live in Valleywood, the city where dreams come true. The only problem is their dream of starting a family has crashed and burned. They exhausted their meager savings with fertility treatments and are out of options. And then a sexy alpha bear shifter rents a room from them. Between him smelling like their mate and their new renter not wanting anything but a job, preferably in acting, things get complicated.

More about Valleywood
Nestled on the shores of Lake Erie, Pennsylvania, there is a major city that no one has ever heard of. Valleywood is home to some of the richest and most powerful magical beings in the country. It’s a hub of commerce, entertainment, and finance in the supernatural world. Unlike the quaint and picturesque Vale Valley to the south, Valleywood is a loud and vibrant city—and they have the seedy underbelly to go with it.
Stripped of his powers by his father, Mayor Loki Boroson oversees the parts of the city that interest him. And what interests Loki usually means mischief and drama. But over the years, the magic of this city has faded, and along with that comes the threat that this cornerstone of life for so many people might one day vanish for good.
In an age where gods live among men, love might be the only magic that matters.

Excerpt One
They both knew the second he peed on the stick it would either kill a dream or make it come true, and he didn’t know if he was ready for the outcome yet. He preferred living in the eye of the storm where he could see Dorothy, Toto, and the witch on the bicycle swirl around, along with the rest of the debris, but none of it had touched them yet. Limbo with Charlie was perfection as far as Sam was concerned.
Charlie kissed him and then grabbed his shoulders and turned him around. “If we’re not pregnant, we’ll figured something else out.”
“We don’t have the money for more treatments.” They had depleted their savings. But it wasn’t just about running out of money. They were running out of time. Neither one of them were getting any younger. They had a few good years of fertility left. It wasn’t as if they had all the time in the world. But they still couldn’t save up enough for fertility in time. It took a lifetime of savings. They were both in their mid-thirties, which didn’t make them old by any standards, but they probably didn’t even have ten years of fertility left. They didn’t have enough time to gather that much savings again.
“We’ll figure something else out,” Charlie repeating those words only made Sam argue even more.
“By that you mean getting second jobs or you tutoring. We’ll never see each other.”
Charlie sighed. “Can we take the test first, at least before we have this conversation?”
Sam let Charlie push him toward the box. Charlie was the one who opened it and handed the white stick to him.
They didn’t have to read the instructions. They’d done it a lot over the years.
Two omega mates trying to get pregnant had proved impossible. “Maybe the gods don’t want us to be parents.” It’s something Sam had said before, and he knew how Charlie would respond before he opened his mouth.
“Anything worth having isn’t easy.” When Charlie spoke, Sam mouthed the words along with him, even as he did his business with the test.
“That’s like saying we should try harder while having sex. How do you try harder at that, Charlie? It’s sex.” The whole peeing-on-a-stick situation took less than a minute. Sam put the test on top of the open box so his pee germs wouldn’t get all over the counter, and then washed his hands.
