No strings attached is easier, until love tangles things.
Privileged playboy Innes Kent has been unmoored since his regular escort quit on him. Though he’s a talented lawyer at a successful firm, without the distractions of a gorgeous man and frequent sex, his mind often wanders in unpleasant directions. For instance, toward his estranged daughter and his many regrets therein.
Charlie is a budding fashion designer, but the need to support his unwell mother has left him scraping to get by. When his cleaning job sends him to a lavish office one desperate night, he’s overwhelmed by the excessive luxury he sees, and when Innes catches him thieving, he’s at the lawyer’s mercy.
But Charlie is just the distraction that Innes needs: a proud and determined scrap of a man who challenges him, annoys him, and attracts him all at once. The perfect choice for a personal assistant who won’t bore him to tears or run screaming from his bad temper. Working together leads to sleeping together, but they’re both too clever to mess up a perfectly good arrangement by getting feelings involved. Aren’t they?
REVIEW:
Now we get Innes story.
Innes is the heartless lawyer that paid to parade Elliott around as eye candy and no-strings sex on the first book “Worth It”. But Elliott dropped him and is now in a committed relationship with Innes’s nephew Aiden. Talk about family drama! And even his personal assistant Marie saw how Elliott dumping him had affected him. He may come off ass a cold-hearted and ruthless bastard but there are way more layers to him than are seen by the naked eye. Being the “surprise” late in life baby that was stress was definitely a mistake, Innes grew up not to expect a life of hearts and flowers because it just isn’t in the cards for him. But late one night, after an argument with his estranged teenage, college student daughter Mimi, he heads to his office to pick up a bottle of fine whiskey a client gave him to drown away the sorrow. Little did he realize that he would walk in on one of his cleaning crew member stealing some of his pricey decorations. Charlie is just trying to get by on two low paying jobs and taking care of his Mom, whom can’t function in the real world after his dad had abandoned them. He dreams of becoming a successful fashion designer (he’s really good at it) but he’s exhausted trying to carry the world on his shoulders. When Innes suggests a plan for Charlie to become his PA life starts to change. When sex becomes involved can the two just keep it fun and games or do feelings threaten to ruin everything?
I will say right off the bat that I really liked this book way better than the first one. Where Elliott drove me a bit nuts with his demands Charlie endeared himself in my heart. They were both strong minded men but Charlie possessed the finesse that Elliott lacked for me. And don’t get me started on what a good guy Innes turns out to be. He was a product of his upbringing and that cold exterior was simple a shield to protect himself. Both men had parent issues that effected them deeply and threatened to destroy any chance at a loving and lasting relationship. But, with both Charlie and Mimi ganging up on him, Innes never really stood a chance. As it should be. I will say that the Kent men seemed to be deeply affected by their rich social elite family. I would like to see if Aiden and Innes finally learn to lean on and like each other again like when they were younger.
As I said, I really liked this second book. I loved getting to see Innes change and learn to trust. And watching Charlie peel way his layers with perfect.
