REVIEW:
Jonty Bloom is joy personified. Everything about him, including this book, is delightful. Jonty’s Halloween is set back at The Dunes hotel in Northumberland where it all began and is reminiscent of the first book in the Unfinished Business series. Our favorite hotel employee is back in the thick of things, bumbling, fumbling, and brilliantly succeeding in operating the hotel when he’s accidentally left in charge.
When their Big Adventure traveling the world is cut short due to Devan’s mom having a stroke, Jonty is left to his own devices while Devan visits her in the hospital (it would be too stressful for his mother to have to see Jonty). Jonty has one of his wild ideas and decides to plan an epic Halloween party for 300 guests at the hotel. He gets the approval of the head honcho, Alan, but conveniently forgets to mention it to Devan first. Easier to ask forgiveness and all that …
If you enjoy Halloween, you’ll love this novel. Vampires, light-up skeleton costumes, fake blood and organs, tombstones, giant spiders, flying bats, gruesome themed party food, Fester, Monster Mash – every awesome creepy decoration you can imagine. It is so much fun! It’s not all fun and games, though. There’s a touch of darkness thrown into the storyline, too.
Spunky, sassy, silly Jonty. I could add sex-minded to that list. And sensational. If you enjoyed The Making of Jonty Bloom, this book is a must read. It carries the same tone, the antics, Jonty and Devan’s great love, and one of my favorite elements, Devan’s inability to say no to whatever his beloved wants – except for the sixty-foot tall, inflatable ghost. Tay and Ink, Ru and Jasim, and Cato and Vigge are among the partygoers; it was wonderful to visit all the past characters from the series. I hope this isn’t the last we see of Jonty and Devan. They would lend themselves well to periodic novellas: Jonty and Devan Get Lost in the Amazon; Jonty Gets a Parrot – Two Smart Mouths are Better Than One; Jonty’s Pride Parade Pratfalls; Jonty Wins Over Devan’s Mother. The possibilities are endless, Ms. Elsborg.
