BLURB:
Sutter’s Bay’s newest dentist, Dane Cloverfield, is surprised to be approached by his two married friends, Urie and Ben Upton. They’d like him to join with them in a polyamorous relationship.
Dane’s cautious, though, because he’s been in a sort of relationship with Urie before and got burned. Plus, with Urie and Ben being married, he’s afraid he’ll always be on the outside looking in.
But Ben and Urie love Dane and are happy to welcome him into their lives. Now they simply have to convince Dane.
REVIEW:
Dane Cloverfield likes his life in Sutter’s Bay. He’s got a nice dental practice has gotten out of a relationship with the wrong guy recently. He’s got some good friends. Urie Upton and his husband Ben have become his closest friends. Kind of a surprise because he hasn’t seen Urie since they had a fast and hot fling in college. Dane was more serious than Urie and so they broke up. But it wasn’t contentious. And Dane really likes Urie’s husband who is a sculptor. They’ve moved to Sutter’s Bay for Urie’s new job at a law practice there. And Dane is now far away from his homophobic mother, which is good for his mental health as well 🙂
One day at lunch Ben suggests that he and Urie would really like to have a threesome with Dane. Dane is someone surprised. He really likes both men and he’s not sure he wants to screw that up what is a really great friendship. He’s be super unhappy if they didn’t work out and then he’s left without his two best friends. But Ben and Urie are pretty persuasive. And it turns out that things between the three of them are great. The sex is fantastic and they all really get along great. But when Urie and Ben push for something a bit more permanent, Dane balks. He feels like he’s got a lot to lose and Ben and Urie will still have each other in the end.
Sigh. I just really wanted more in this story! It’s just too short. I liked the build up to the three men deciding to try this out – while Dane still maintains his own home. But then I felt like any possible settling in or growing pains were completely skipped over. I can’t believe there weren’t some pretty heavy discussions that had to take place with some clear delineation of rules/commitment to being honest about communication and feelings that wouldn’t have to be explicitly laid out. Dane, being the third to a married couple, rightly has feelings of uncertainty in entering into this relationship. The trial basis was a good plan. I also really liked that he dealt with his mother in a new and more healthy way for him 😉 I’ve enjoyed this series over the years and this story was fine. I just wish we had gotten to see more of the evolution of this relationship. If you’re looking for a short, quick, sexy story and are OK with a jump to resolution, this might be a good one to pick up.
