The price of love could be too high to pay.
Elliott Meyer is a dedicated student . . . and a part-time sex worker. College is expensive, and after his mother’s death left his family struggling, he’s desperate to avoid drowning in debt. Problem is, he just lost his only client. Time to hit the clubs and find a new benefactor before bills start piling up.
Enter Aiden Kent: rich, handsome . . . and the nephew of Elliott’s former client. Rather than letting this drive a wedge between them, Aiden offers Elliott an opportunity. Aiden’s stressed out and has no time for a relationship. He’s eager to hire Elliott to provide all the benefits of a boyfriend with none of the responsibility. And they both swear it’s only a little weird.
But when their business arrangement starts to become a full-on relationship, things get complicated. Elliott won’t accept money from a romantic partner, and Aiden won’t continue their relationship if Elliott’s sleeping with other clients. With his future on the line, Elliott’s left with a terrible decision: risk his bright academic future, or lose Aiden forever.
REVIEW:
First book by a new author.
Elliott Meyer knows what he wants in life. Always had. He is going to be a college professor before the age of thirty teaching about his favorite subject “Ancient History”. But going to UCLA is expensive and scholarships don’t cover it. Besides, his dad is drowning in debt from his mom’s cancer treatments and a house that is crumbing around him. So Elliott makes money the only way that will pay well enough for Dad and his needs – as a paid escort/sex worker. When he breaks it off from his last “benefactor” he goes out in search of his next big client. When that client turns out to be the uptight nephew of his last one color him shocked. Then Aiden wants to snuggle??? Color Elliott all kinds of shades confused. But when feelings start injecting into their business relationship what will happen next?
I will say straight out that I believe that Aiden had the hots for Elliott long before they hooked up. And the business arrangement that Elliott provided was the only way he saw to getting to him. And I felt for Aiden. He was trying to do the right thing even though Elliot’s “chip on his shoulder/I can provide for myself” attitude got a bit old and angst filled. I got that Innes, Auden’s Uncle, basically trained him to be the way he was but love changed all that. Accepting Aiden’s help wasn’t selling out. Selling himself wasn’t the only was for him to save honor and face. But he really did have a super low self esteem issues.
I like this book however it did seem to drone on a bit. I could only take so much of Elliott’s “I can do it myself and I don’t need to lean on anybody attitude”. And I really felt for Aiden. I know it was a bit of the “poor little rich boy” scenario but he just got to me. He wanted so badly to make life a bit easier for Elliott. It really bothered me that Aiden could only buy Elliott’s time but wasn’t allowed to gift him a laptop when he was concerned about his schoolwork. School was important to Elliott and Elliott was important to Aiden. So helping him with a small gift wasn’t throwing it in Elliott’s face that Elliott was poor and Aiden was rich. It was trying to help the man he loved.
