The night Kieran bangs on Theo’s door and kisses him changes both their lives forever. Theo has never been in the closet, but Kieran isn’t out and risks losing everything — his inheritance, his relationship with his family — should his parents find out.
But their feelings for each other can’t be denied, and Theo agrees to keeping their budding relationship a secret. But can their love grow and flourish when hidden away in the dark? Or will it wilt and die before they have a chance to live happily ever after?
All I’ll Ever See is an extended version of my previously published short All I See; close to 10k words have been added.
REVIEW:
Theo and Kieran have known each other most of their lives – Kieran being the oldest brother of Theo’s best friend Seamus. However, as it became obvious that Theo was gay, Seamus’s family (meaning parents and middle brother Liam) only had scorn for him. Their conservative and bigoted views were made very plain. But when Theo shows up and kisses Theo – out of the blue – then things get complicated. Because for Theo, who is the “heir apparent” to his father’s company and position and power, there is absolutely no way he can be who he really is – a gay man.
Theo has been in love with Kieran since he was a kid 🙂 But he always knew it was hopeless – not just because Kieran was straight, but because of the obvious disdain his family had for him – a gay man. So he is gobsmacked when Kieran shows up and kisses him and tells him he wants to be with him. Sadly this means a life in the closet – or no life at all 🙁 But Theo is willing to make that sacrifice for Kieran. Until he isn’t.
Oh how I loved this story 🙂 Sooo soooo many feels. This story is told in chapters from Theo and Kiernan’s lives – from when they first get together as adults when Kieran can no longer deny himself and his desires. Theo is willing to do a lot in order to be with Kieran – until a pivotal event causes him pain he can no longer hide. Kieran realizes how much he is asking of Theo – and they agree to be honest about their feelings and what they are wiling to accept. And they stay true to that. Both men were so lovely even though they were constrained by homophobic family members on Kieran’s side. Even in this short story, I felt like I really understood Kieran and Theo and the decisions they made and why. Just beautifully written. The love is palpable in this story as usual from this ubertalented author. Highly recommended for fans of short stories that pack a punch. I know I’ll definitely revisit this gem.
