Trip:
I was born and raised on Rebel Sky Ranch. In the long, terrible year since my mother’s death, meeting Sam is the one bright spot. He reminds me of the horses we rescue. Scarred, skittish, and…strong. Beautiful.
He’s a bit of a hat-stealer, and, truth be told, I’m a little leery of his chosen profession. The things he does in front of a camera… Well, it makes me blush just thinkin’ about it. But if that scar on his face is any indication, he could use somebody at his back. I aim to be that person.
And yeah, some of my parts get confused by the fact that he’s all delicate and sparkly, but that’s not important. Even if the good hand lotion has somehow made it into the tack room.
I just hope he knows that he’ll always be safe with me.
Sam:
I’m a cam boy who officially identifies as Wrangler-sexual. It’s entirely the fault of Trip Goodnight, the strapping cowboy at the ranch next door. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s going to be the father of my two-point-five children.
We’re an unlikely pairing, what with him being straight and me being a gay sex worker, but those, darling, are mere details. When he saves me from a literal nest of rattlesnakes, it’s nothing if not true love. I’m aiming for a spring wedding.
While it’s true that I haven’t been able to let a man touch me since I was attacked last year, and there’s no telling what my father might do if he manages to find me, I’m not letting any of that stop me.
In fact, I’ve stolen Trip’s cowboy hat and used it in one of my videos, so I’m already well on my way to making him mine. Besides, he’s the first man outside of my found family who’s made me feel safe. Protected.
That’s gotta count for something…right?
Bisexual awakening, hurt-comfort, size difference, friends to lovers
REVIEW:
Sam is a cam boy who has been taken in by the Bash family. He is now staying at the vineyard next to a the Rebel Sky Ranch which is run by the Goodnights. Trip Goodnight, the son of the ranch owner, is a big beautiful burly cowboy that hits every one of Sam’s buttons. He’s been lusting after him from afar. But when he wanders where he should not be and Sam literally rescues him, he’s totally besotted. But, sigh, what a bad idea to fall for the straight guy!
Trip Goodnight is a rancher who knows his way around a horse and the other rescues on his ranch. He’s still grieving the loss of his mother the year before, but he’s working himself to death to make keep the ranch going. His father misses his wife something fierce too and they are barely keeping their heads above water. He’s broken up some time ago with his girlfriend who couldn’t handle his mother’s illness and he’s not had much interest in anyone. But now, he’s suddenly got some feelings around this beautiful guy that he’s rescued 😉 He’s confused, but not overly worried about it. His mom was bi and his foreman and ranch hand are both queer as is his uncle – his mother’s younger brother. But he’s just unsettled about what he’s feeling.
Sam and Trip end up becoming friends. And they are very honest friends. Sam gets Trip to open up about this life and his love life in particular. Trip admits that while he likes sex, he’s only ever had the only relationship with his high school crush/college sweetheart Trinity. But he knows something was missing. Trip begins to realize that he’s not exactly straight and that he needs to have an emotional connection to anyone in order to feel sexual attraction. Thing is, that person seems to be Sam 🙂
Sam is in hiding because of his father. He’s a homophobe and has tried to force Sam to go to a conversion camp. Sam’s past as a sex worker has had some bad ramifications as well. This fully engages Trip’s protective instincts. When Trip gives into temptation and watches one of Sam’s video’s, it’s pretty apparent where his interests lie. But there are several battles ahead of them to find their happy ending 😉
So this is the first Kelly Fox book I’ve read. Apparently she is a newer MM author but has put out quite a few books in the past couple of years. I kind of wish I had read the series that this series is a spin-off from, but it does work as a stand alone. I just wish I’d had more of Sam’s background as well as Odd and Anders’ story 🙂 But no matter, I guess I can go back and read them 😉 I adored Sam. He was tough and sweet and strong and confident. I loved how he didn’t feel intimidated by Trip. Trip was adorably clueless. It really took Sam to make him see what was right in front of him. There is a great scene with one of the other guys on the ranch that explains it as Trip finally looking in the mirror of Sam to see who he really is. Their romance is sweet and dirty and sexy and hot. I enjoyed them getting to know each other and share their lives. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series 🙂 Recommended particularly for fans of bi-awakening and opposites attract stories. There can never be too many stories about hot and sweet cowboys!
