Book Description
An obsession with the past becomes his love story.
Obsessed with RMS Titanic from a young age, Lucas Thompson has spent his life studying the shipwreck and turning his passion into a career in marine archeology. But, on the one-hundred-year anniversary of the voyage, he’s drawn to the ship’s resting place by a strange sonar ripple that hurtles him back in time. Luke wakes in the year 1912 as a passenger on the grandest ship in the world.
It’s there that he meets Quinton Hawthorne, the man who sacrificed himself to save passengers during the sinking, including Luke’s great-grandmother. He also comes face-to-face with Lucinda Hughes, the very woman who raised him on her stories of the ship. With his inside knowledge of the impending disaster, Luke feels a responsibility to change history and develops a plan to save the doomed ship and its passengers.
Things quickly fall apart as Luke begins to fall for Quinton, knowing that it can only end in heartbreak. Though he’s determined to save Quinton, he’s also faced with a dilemma. Should he save the ship or allow destiny to play out?
It was much warmer without life support than Luke had thought it would be. It almost felt like the sun was beating down on his face. Oh, thank God, he thought. Kyle got the rescue teams out, even in the storm. He let out a sigh of relief. The smooth deck of RV Tanker was something he’d thought he would never feel again, and the soft murmur of people around him was oddly comforting.
Wait. Luke opened his eyes. The sky was above him, clear and cloudless. What happened to the storm? Luke propped himself up and looked around, his head beginning to swirl with confusion. He wasn’t on the Tanker and this wasn’t his crew. He was on the deck of a ship, but it was crowded with dozens of people he didn’t know. Still, it all looked so familiar.
“Are you all right?” someone asked. He was beginning to draw attention from the crowd, who all looked shocked at him being there. Luke focused on the man addressing him. He was older, with silver hair and a mustache that curved up at the ends. He was also wearing a top hat and long overcoat with a cane hooked over his elbow.
“Is that one of the engineers?” another voice, this one female, asked. “He shouldn’t be up here, should he?” Luke stared at the middle-aged woman as she rushed by, her bustled skirt bouncing behind her.
“He wasn’t there a second ago. Where did he come from?”
“What on earth is he wearing? Is that some sort of uniform?”
Luke tried to stand, but his legs didn’t want to cooperate. A gloved hand appeared, touching his shoulder to ease him back down. When he looked to see who it was, he saw familiar eyes looking out from an equally familiar face. Luke’s mouth hung open while Quinton Hawthorne checked over him.
“Are you hurt, sir?” he asked. Luke couldn’t answer, couldn’t even move. “Do you need help getting to the infirmary?”
“I’m all right,” he said in a small voice. “I’m just…” I’m just in the middle of a fever dream. He managed to make it to his feet, brushing Quinton’s hand away and stumbling over the polished wood that made up the deck. A single look around told him why the place seemed so familiar. The upright mast held the crow’s nest, where Luke could see a couple of officers patrolling. The deck railings, intact wheelhouse and captain’s bridge were freshly painted a stark white. A massive black-and-brown funnel rose to the heavens, three identical ones in a line behind it, all but the last emitting clouds of gray smoke into the air.
Luke dragged himself across the deck, throwing himself against the railing and heaving up what little his stomach had in it. The ocean flashed by far below him, the white noise it created not soothing him as it should. What the hell is happening? his mind screamed at him.
