His secret could cost him everything.
Blurb
Landon Griffin has everything going for him. He’s a high school senior on the brink of receiving a football scholarship, his dad is running for mayor of Madison, Texas, and his future with his girlfriend looks bright. But his simple life shatters when feelings spark for a guy he’s never met. Giving the stranger the codename Mystery Boy, Landon hesitates to step out of his comfort zone to solve the mystery. Living in a conservative town, he struggles to hide his new obsession while trying to figure out where he fits within the spectrum of sexuality. Can he dodge the constant questions from his friends and find answers before the escalating anxiety becomes too much to handle? Land On Me is Matthew R. Corr’s debut novel akin to the drama of Christopher Rice and the coming-of-age brilliance of Alex Sanchez.
I wiped the lip gloss from my lips and headed for my Advanced Placement Literature class, wondering if anyone had been staring at us kissing. I tried shaking the thought of this shirtless person from my brain before climbing the stairs to the second floor. AP Lit was my favorite class. I enjoyed having in-depth conversations about characters, storytelling, symbolism, and everything else that came with classic literature. Mrs. Donahue was my teacher, a tall, slender woman with tanned skin and short dark hair. She was one of the few teachers up to date on the latest fashion trends. A lot of the guys from the football team had the hots for her. I mean, she was beautiful, in a teacher sort of way.
My seat was in the third row, on the far-right side of the class, next to the large windows. I was one of the last ones to arrive as everyone had already filled the room with noise and chatter. I sat at my desk, placing my backpack next to me. I unzipped it and took out a notebook. Just as I sat back up, my eyes caught movement from outside the window. My eyebrows scrunched as my brain processed what I was seeing.
What the…
My eyes hadn’t deceived me earlier. I was seeing the same shirtless back for the second time in the courtyard. The way the sun hit him, it was as if he was lighting up the entire street. It was like God had a single light shining down on his most beautiful angel. I felt like a creep, because everything else in my world fell away, and I was locked on him. I couldn’t even hear the surrounding chatter anymore. He was doing something to the half wall that separated the courtyard from the sidewalk. Cleaning it, maybe?
I couldn’t see his face; his back was facing me. He was slender, with broad shoulders. I noticed his jeans were sagging a bit, showing off the band of his white underwear; every curve of muscle in his back was pure perfection. He had those hard muscles poking out of his lower back, causing indents at either side of his spine that looked like dimples pointing toward his tailbone. His shoulders looked perfectly rounded as if they were sculpted by high-tech lasers. Every time he moved his arm I caught a glimpse of hair poking out from his armpit. His triceps flexed with every swipe across the stone wall. His hair was wavy and dark brown. It was longer on top than the back. I imagined myself being able to zoom in with my eyes like a camera just so I could see every bead of sweat pushing from the pores of his tanned skin. It was almost like he was sparkling like one of those vampires from Twilight. The sun was beating down hard. I couldn’t help but wonder why anyone would want to stay outside. The boy was a fascinating mystery to me. Who was he? Why was he there? Why was his shirtless back making me feel some type of way? I watched, desperately waiting for him to turn around so I could see his face, hoping it would stop my wandering thoughts.
