REVIEW:
A short, quick novella with lots of kink thrown in.
Ben has been suffering with deep depression since everything that has went down since the pandemic began. He lost his dance studio that had been his dream, without constant dancing he has gained weight which has resulted in a belly that he’s so ashamed of. And his depression meds have robbed him of his libido. Nick loves his husband and loves his new look even more but, with his husband’s depression, he is walking on eggshells not to upset him. And his sending them on a tropical vacation is backfiring quickly. When Ben confronts Nick about what he’s hiding on his phone Nick has to finally come clean with his kinky fantasy and dreads this is the last straw in their relationship…but what if it’s just the spice they have been needing to rekindle their flames?
This short novella is packed full of all kinds of kink once you get beyond the uncomfortably large amount of angst in their relationship in the beginning of the book. I mean I get that Ben is ashamed of his body and wants to hide it. I’m famous for doing that. And his meds are doing a number on him but they are needed to stop him from barreling down the rabbit hole of deep, debilitating depression. But, poor Nick is beyond frustrated. That and Ben’s small amount of weight gain has changed his body in a way that really gets his engines revving. But every time he tries to mention it Ben immediately shuts him down in disbelief.
I loved when it all came to a head and Nick was forced to verbalize his kinky desires. What I didn’t expect was Ben’s sudden flip. They became scorching hot in their exploration of breeding and daddy kink.
I think my favorite part was the interaction between Ben and the twink in the dance club restroom. It was the final thing he needed to accept that all would be well and he was still desired.
I really fell for this author and their Safe Harbor series and, while this book started out a bit slow it revved up once they connected again. I’m looking forward to a lot more.
