Keeping the vampires under control is a task Cain takes seriously. Humans have accepted his rule, and anyone who seeks to destroy his territory is given swift punishment. His promise to keep Black Veil safe comes with great sacrifice and selflessness; never does he dare hope for more in life. Until one day, a man walks through his front door and changes everything.
Jayce has a happy life. His adopted parents love him, he wants for very little, and he lives every day to the fullest. But when a normal evening turns into a nightmare, and Jayce is forced to come face-to-face with The Blood Boss, the world as he knows it feels like a lie.
Then a great secret is revealed, and nothing is what it seems. Cain and Jayce must work together to stop the forces uniting against the vampires. Life and love are in jeopardy as they fight those who seek to destroy them. Can Cain and Jayce keep Black Veil from crumbling into the sea when every attempt to do so seems impossible?
REVIEW:
I have always love Vampires, Werewolves! Even while watching TV series and movies, I tend to lean towards these themes/storylines. And lately I have had the chance to read more supernatural characters in the LGBTQ+ genre.
The Blood Boss is a new series from Ms. Davidson King. It brings us into a world of Vampires, Mermaids/Merfolk, Sirens and Witches. We are introduce into the city of Black Veil, which I think is a very apt name for the place. Its residents are Supernatural and human alike. They have learn to coexist because of what happened in the past that warranted the intervention of the Vampires in order to save humankind. Black Veil is ruled by The Blood Boss, or Cain. He has gone to great lengths in order to bring peace to its residents. But who knew that a simple debt collection will bring forth a secret that has been so well hidden until then.
Jayce grew up in a loving home. He knows that he is adopted but that really didn’t stop his parents from loving him like their own, and for him loving them back, and his adopted siblings. He will do anything for his parents. So when he found out, by accident, that his father owed money to The Blood Boss, it is but natural for him to lay claim on the debt so that no harm will happen to his father and his family. He was brought in front of the Blood Boss and an arrangement was made for the payment of his father’s debt.
Both Jayce and Cain never knew what was coming for them. It took them all by surprise (an understatement)! It brought forth a secret that could have dire consequences. But learning about it and accepting it will be their only way to combat it. They have to form new alliances with former enemies (?) and learn to trust new allies.
The kind of story I love! I am a great fan of supernatural stories. For me it means action, adventure, and unexpected surprises that will literally put you on the edge of your seat. It means secrets, mysteries, romance and happily-ever-after (mostly)! And although the book wasn’t very long, it was still able to tell us an amazing story.
A great start to a new series Ms. King and I can’t wait for the next book. Congratulations!
