Sequel to The Best-Laid Plans
Once upon a time, two handsome young princes fell in love, faced down adversity, and lived happily-ever-after … until one romantic evening, they unwittingly ate a confection laced with a mind-wiping toxin.
Crown Prince Efren of Zioneven blindsided Prince Marcelo of Sheburat when he used The Contingency Plan embedded in a peace treaty to marry the naïve young prince. Now, Marcelo is shocked again when he awakens in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar land, in the arms of a stranger who’s taking such liberties!
Will that ignominious new beginning to their relationship doom their chances at rekindling their love? Or will Efren’s giddiness and the less formal surroundings of Zioneven propel them toward a more teasingly fun rapport?
Marcelo and Efren have forgotten more than their love. On their journey home to Zioneven, their Best-Laid Plans went awry when Marcelo was abducted. Now, neither remembers the unexpected strength of character and ingenuity Marcelo manifested to survive his harrowing ordeal, or Efren’s frantic search for his new husband.
Were Marcelo and Efren specifically targeted for the Forget-Me-Not poisoning, or were they the victims of a random assault? Is this new attack related to Marcelo’s abduction and his sister’s death? Will Marcelo revert to his old mild-mannered, unassuming self, or will he step up to prove he’s the same brave man his new family claims he is amid the fresh danger swirling around them?
REVIEW:
Note: This is the third in this series and as such contains many spoilers for the previous books. I would recommend reading them in order 🙂
Marcelo and Efren have returned to Zioneven, Efren’s home country after the very eventful trip back from Sheburat, Marcelo’s home country where the princes were married. They are getting ready to embark on a tour of the country, but when they wake up, they have no memory of each other, their marriage or the treacherous trip back from Sheburat where Marcelo has acquitted himself admirably 🙂 Efren thinks Marcelo to be a “bed warmer” and Marcelo not only does not know who Efren is, but he has no idea where is either. Soon his valet Erich appears and shares the news that he has married Efren and they are in Zioneven with his new husband. He also has to share some sad news that has led to Efren marrying Marcelo.
Efren is equally unsure what is happening and Dru, his valet also fills him in. The two princes then join the rest of the family and discover that they are the only ones who have been dosed with the Forget-me-not drug and that they have no memory of the last two moon cycles. Not only that, but they likely will never remember. So the security detail and Efren’s family have to fill in some gaps.
Parallel to getting to know each other again and learn about the past two months that they don’t remember, the mystery of who and how the princes were poisoned is the chief priority. It seems that the other kingdoms may or may not have motivations the cause problems between Zioneven and Sheburat. But who is really behind the attacks, attempted abductions and this latest mystery are difficult to determine, especially with the gaps in the memories of the princes. Both princes are hopeful that they can move forward with their lives and get things back on track both between them and so that they can get back to their official duties. Luckily they seem to nearly be able to pick up from where they left off 😉
Oh I loved this! Efren and Marcelo are sooooo adorable on so many levels. It’s clear that they are meant to be. This story of them falling in love all over again is just so lovely 🙂 Efren’s family is amazing and warm and loving and fun! This is of course a complete change from what Marcelo is used to. The fact that he is valued and that he has obviously changed since he left Sheburat gives him new confidence and it’s wonderful to see him accepting this new Marcelo. I absolutely loved Efren’s family. Marcelo really once again comes into his own here in this story and the support and love from Efren’s family and the comfort and warmth he feels as he is reintroduced to each member. I love how Marcelo comes into his own and how much Efren appreciates and admires him. These two are such a wonderful couple and this story really a fantastic addition to this series.
