The Quiet House by Lily Morton
Blank and Blue, Book 2
Levi Black has mostly recovered from the events of a year ago. The only lingering effects are that he’s much more well known in York than he’d like to be, and he’s a lot more cautious about walking around his house naked. However, those events brought him the capricious and fascinating Blue, so he’s not complaining. On the contrary, he’s happy, in love, and looking forward to Blue finally moving in with him. And if sometimes he wonders what Blue sees in a boring cartoonist, he keeps that to himself.
Blue Billings is finally ready to throw off the memories of his past and move in with the person who means the most in the world to him. His psychic abilities have grown in the last year to his mentor Tom’s consternation, but Blue is determined to look on the bright side. He’s also focused on ignoring all the warning signs that he’s received lately.
However, even deeply buried secrets have a way of rising to the surface. And when a surprise from Blue’s past turns up and draws them away to a lonely house on the Yorkshire moors, Levi and Blue must fight for their survival once again.
From bestselling author, Lily Morton, comes the second book in the Black and Blue series. The books should be read in order.

I’m looking at the multitude of pine needles scattered throughout the downstairs and starting to regret my choice of a real Christmas tree when the doorbell chimes.
I hasten to open the door and am surprised to find Tom on the doorstep. He’s bundled up in an old tweed coat, and his cheeks are red. He also looks excessively awkward.
“Tom,” I say. I’ve grown to love the old man over the year that Blue and I have been together, but he’s definitely more a part of Blue’s life than my own. I see him with Blue and never alone. “How are you?” I ask rather inanely.
“Can I come in?” he asks, looking up and down the lane nervously.
My interest piqued, I open the door fully and gesture him in. “Of course. Let me take your coat. Would you like tea?”
“I’m not staying,” he says abruptly. He stops in the hallway and looks around. “Better atmosphere here now,” he says.
I smile. “Funny what getting rid of a homicidal ghost does for a house’s ambience.”
He chuckles and follows me into the kitchen where he hovers awkwardly.
“Where’s Blue?” I ask.
“Back at the shop. He doesn’t know I’m here.”
“Tom, this is so sudden. I never knew you felt this way,” I say lightly, and he rolls his eyes. “We’re like Romeo and Juliet.”
I laugh at my own joke, and he sighs. “I need to talk to you about his father and the offer he made.”
“Sit down,” I urge him and take a seat at the table opposite him. “He told you?”
“He told me in great detail about your argument,” he corrects me. He grimaces. “A bit too much detail.” I flush, and he quickly says, “But he told me enough about his dad to cause me concern.”
“You’re worried too? Why? It’s not like me to take such an instant dislike to anyone, and I thought it might be because I’m so concerned that he’ll hurt Blue. But I should probably give him the benefit of the doubt.”
“I’m worried about him, but more so about that house. Blue’s been alarmingly casual about it.”
“He just sees it as a chance to get to know his dad,” I say, and in truth, I’ve barely thought about the actual job.
He grimaces. “Well, he needs to take it seriously, Levi. That’s a house with a terrible reputation.”
A shiver runs down my spine. “What do you mean?”
“It’s supposed to be one of the most haunted places in England.”
“Declan said that.”
“Well, it’s never been tested, but rumours have been rife for years that there are some very violent spirits there. I’ve heard that the reason the viscount’s father never allowed any psychic researchers on the premises was because he was scared of being sued if someone got hurt.”
I sit back in my chair. “Shit,” I say.
He huffs. “You can say that again.”
“How do you know so much about this?”
“Because they asked me to go there too.” I gape at him in surprise, and he waves his hand dismissively. “I said no.”
“Why?” I ask.
He looks deep in thought for a second. “Because it’s trouble, and I thought I was too old for that.” He taps the table. “But I rang up today and accepted the offer.”
“Why?” I ask again.
He smiles. “You know why, Levi. It’s the same reason that you’re going to move heaven and earth to go with that boy of yours.”
That cold runs down my spine again. “Because he’s going to need us.”
